a/n: THIS IS SO SOFT WTF THANK YOU OKAY OKAY OKAY
But I’m Scared
Harry had surprised you with an entire three weeks off in Florida. You were both sick of the cold, so he rented a house for the two of you in the sunshine state. The only thing about the time of year you chose to go was that in the evenings thunder showers were a thing.
The first couple of nights it was no big deal. Harry kept it cool, it was only just rain. One night you were both watching a movie on the couch while it was raining. He saw flash of lightning and heard a large boom, he practically jumped into your lap.
“Jesus, Harry, you’re shaking!” You were completely unbothered by storms, they calmed you actually. You rubbed his back, and he settled a little.
“Just, um, the sound surprised me is all. I’m alright.” Another loud crack and boom from outside, and he burrowed his head under your shirt. You stifled a giggle, not wanting to embarrass him.
“It’s alright Harry, I know thunder storms can be scary.” You coo. “You feel safer under there.”
“Mhm.”
“Okay, you can stay in my shirt if you want.”
You thought it was cute until you needed to get up to go to the bathroom. He barely let you move from the couch until you shouted that you were going to pee your pants. When you opened the bathroom door after getting your relief you found him sitting on the floor outside waiting for you. You preyed the weather would stop soon.
He held you close to him all night. You were usually cuddly sleepers anyways, but his body wouldn’t stop shaking. You felt terrible because you didn’t realize he was so scared of thunder storms. He was around loud noises all the time on your, why was this different.
The next day was gloomy. The storm from the night before had only let up a little. Luckily this would be the last day of rain, according to your weather app. You take it upon yourself to make this a cleaning day. You knew some friends would be coming down to join you in the next couple of days, so you wanted to tidy up. It was just rain in the morning, so Harry was fine. He went for a run on the treadmill while you made up some breakfast. You were just cleaning everything up when you saw a bright flash from outside. Harry came bursting into the kitchen, drenched in sweat. He wrapped his arms around you and buried his face in your back.
“Harry!” You whine. “Go take a shower, you’re all sweaty.”
“You can’t shower during a storm!” You turn around to look at him.
“That’s just an old wive’s tale. It’s fine, go on.”
“Will you come with me?” He pouts. “Please don’t make me shower alone.” He looks like he’s about to cry. You’ve never seen him like this before.
You slowly put down the rag in your hand, and go with him to the bathroom. His entire body had goosebumps on it. Luckily you couldn’t really hear the storm from the bathroom, so your conjoined shower went smoothly.
“Rain’s supposed to stop some time tonight, babe.” You smile reassuringly as you put some leggings and a t-shirt on. Harry puts on a pair of shorts and t-shirt as well.
“That’s good.”
“M’just gonna go around and tidy up the house so it’s not a sty when our friends get here.” You kiss him on the cheek and leave the bedroom.
You find him following you around. Not necessarily helping, but he clearly just felt safer being near you. There was another loud boom while you were dusting. The next thing you knew Harry’s head is going up under the front of your shirt. His arms are wrapped tightly around you, and you can feel a wetness on your stomach. He was crying.
“Note to self, don’t come to Florida this time of year again.”
“I’m ruinin’ our trip.” He says, muffled from begin inside your shirt.
“You’re not sweetie, it’s okay.” You caught on that he just needed a dark, quiet place to go. “Let’s, um, go into the bedroom and get under the covers, yeah?”
The chores could wait. You needed to make sure he felt safe. He shuffles with you down the hall, refusing to release you. Once you’re in the room you close the door behind you. You get him into to the bed, and pull the covers over both of your heads. You pull him close to your chest, and try to soothe him best you can.
“I got caught in a storm when I was really little.” He says quietly. “Ever since then I’ve been petrified. Usually I’m fine, but days in a row like this are just too much.”
“I’m sorry baby, that’s not easy to deal with.”
“You must think I’m a big baby.”
“Not at all, everyone’s scared of something.”
“Not you, you’re like the bravest person I know.”
“I’m scared of spiders. You’re always getting rid of them for me.” You feel his smile against you.
“I’m so happy I have you. Don’t know what I would do without you here.” He nuzzles in closer to you.”
Harry was back to his old self was the storm subsided, happy to see more of his friends. You had no problem being his “security blanket”. The fact that he took comfort in you over everything else was something you never would’ve expected. But hey, that was love.
