Hey can I ask a writing question? I want to know what your take is on like do you like Ao3 or Wattpad. I'm looking to try to write somewhere so I wanted to know if you had an opinion. I know your Ao3 is linked but is there anything you like or don't like about it?
I don’t use wattpad and considering how many times people plagiarized mine and others’ works on here...no thank you lmao.
I also used to read on there for a while a few years ago and the tone/style of the stories that get seen the most is often...distinctive. People don’t really do Reader stories. They use OCs that are light weight inserts and use celebrities as their avatars in the the story and face claims of famous men they want to bang for whom they create whole new identities in their stories. For this reason, as was explained to me by a former friend/mutual...the stories on there can lead to book deals and are easier to market as that. You’ve got these mafia stories, kidnapping stories, some quite dark, that can reach this wider audience and reach millions of views or whatever. But the style doesn’t need to be the most...polished, to speak politely, just popular and liked by a bunch of kids lool. Often the more outrageous the story, the more people enjoy...it’s similar to tumblr in that way 😂😂.
As for AO3, the general quality of stories on there is usually quite high. Beautiful, elaborate stories and writing do quite well. Series do well usually cause they grow overtime with kudos, comments and views, but in general outside of series, I don’t get very many comments on there, mostly kudos (it’s like a permanent like on ao3. Once it’s given, it can’t be erased).
Tumblr is probably where you’ll get the most feedback, even when your story has "low engagement"...it’s still a bit more than ao3 number wise. But get ready to tear out your own hair at the overwhelming, ridiculous ratio of likes to reblogs lol.
As for my preference? I’ve read on ao3 long before being on here so I’ll always use it to some extent (though technical issues with my laptop have curtailed my updating on there 😂). I don’t fuck with wattpad. Period. I’ve seen brilliant writing and poetry get ignored cause it’s not outrageous enough and doesn’t have mafia men lmaooo. And tumblr’s cool even if I badly suck at the social part of the site. I put my foot in my mouth...constantly. I rant every other week about some shit 🤣🤣. I don’t do so well at that part but overall people are still kind and supportive to me, which I appreciate.
That is my abnormally long take. Sorry. In summary, AO3 and Tumblr are still what I prefer as I have no interest in being published or a book deal ever 😂.
