A/N: This probably should have been posted before ‘The Scarlet Apprentice’ to set the scene- oops. Consider this Part 1 of The Scarlet Apprentice (included on the Masterlist). I may make this a series, though I have other ideas concerning other Marvel Characters. Hopefully you all enjoy it.

“What exactly am I looking at here?” You questioned as the four of you ventured further through the narrow pathways of the sacred temple.
“No one knows for sure, it is thought to have some sort of connection with Wanda, well the Scarlet Witch that is. It varies from person to person in match with its interpretation” Stephen breaks down what little knowledge he has on the ‘lost’ segment of the Dark Hold revolving the Scarlet Witch.
“Well all I’m getting is some serious Indiana Jones vibes down here, you know the one where he goes looking for the Holy Grail….” You stop your reference when you notice the unimpressed expression on Wanda’s face- surely she’d be used to your endless movie references by now.
“I am not familiar with this so-called ‘Indiana Jones’, do they have any relevance to this ‘Beyoncé’ character Stephen references so much?” Wong enquires, with the combination of yours and Strange’s personality he finds it rather difficult to keep up with you both.
“As much as I would love to talk about Beyoncé, we need to focus on the mission at hand, Wanda, what is this artefact we have in front of us?” Stephen encourages the Witch forward, to give her understanding of what they were getting themselves into.
“From what I have seen, it has been used for centuries by each Scarlet Witch to assist the designation of their Apprentice. She took some convincing, but Agatha Harkness stated that ‘only the Apprentice would be able to interpret the scribes on the page, and see themselves as the character decorating the pages’. She said it is some sort of curse to avoid destruction of the artefact.” Wanda finished, looking around to ensure everyone was paying attention, you were not.
“Woah, what’s this writing on the floor?” You scrape your foot across the dusty platform to reveal hidden wording on the stone, unknowingly setting off several hidden threats.
Large blades reveal themselves from the floor in marked places, causing Stephen, Wong and Wanda to jump in surprise to avoid them, using what power they could create to destroy them from causing further damage. Being powerless, you ran straight into Wanda’s hold, hoping she would get the message to catch you. After several near misses, the traps were taken care of.
You looked around everywhere you could to avoid Wanda’s daring gaze, well that was until she grabbed your chin to direct your face to hers, “ha, maybe whoever designed this temple watched Indiana Jones too.” Stephen rolled his eyes at your poor attempt at humour.
“Pay attention printessa, I will not ask nicely again.” To some, Wanda’s tone would be ominous, but you know she is just trying to protect you, and in order to do that you need to help her understand her new role- and where you come into it.
“Excuse you love, I actually found a clue.” Wanda rushes over to where you were originally standing, noticing that in fact the words on the floor were hidden instructions in order to view the artefact in the most reliable way.
“Well done moya lyubov’!” You can’t help the rush of heat that reaches your cheeks, Wanda always has a way to make you swoon for her.
“When you two are quite finished, we have some work to do.” Wong said, exhausted.
“Someone needs to take his head out of his-“ Wanda gives you a knowing look before saying, “Play nice y/n”.
“Right here, it states how to activate the page we need: “Allow the destined Scarlet Witch to grace the presence of the segment, there you will unlock the true capabilities of her Apprentice, once revealed the truth will be free to those worthy of knowing”. Sounds simple enough.” Stephen finishes.
“What part of this is simple? We are going around in circles” Wong announces his frustration, clearly not benefitting from the prolonged exposure of the sacred temple’s tricks.
During this time Wanda took it upon herself to step up to the platform, holding the rusted artefact. She conjured a simple orb of red between her fingertips and touched the ruins of the book, if you could call it that. Reacting to her touch, a pale blue light reveals itself over the page, allowing the viewer to interpret what they are intended to see- her powers worked.
“Phew, that would have been awkward if it didn’t work for her huh.” You were trying to work out your nervousness of the situation, knowing you were one step closer to the truth- you should be relieved right?
“All I can see is the same wording from the Dark Hold I acquired in Westview, there isn’t any new information for me to use, Stephen come and look.” Wanda stepped down from the platform, to allow Stephen to share his views.
“It’s blank, there’s no scribes, no images, it’s just a grey, metallic page.” Stephen places a small dose of Sorcerer’s magic onto the page, to which the page absorbs the power and reveals nothing.
“Wong, your turn.” Stephen steps down.
“It’s like the ‘Sword in the Stone’.” You muse mostly to yourself, until Wanda sends you an internal warning telling you to stop, she’s just jealous she didn’t think of it first.
“Nothing has been revealed to me, the artefact is too advanced for my power, even as a Sorcerer Supreme.” Wong admits defeatedly.
“How is that possible? I thought you were one of the most powerful legends we have in our universe.” You question.
“He likes to think that, but unfortunately he’s right, you’re up y/n.” Strange directs you to the platform.
Your heart rate picks up with each step you take closer. You can’t understand why you are so nervous, for all you know the artefact won’t reveal anything for you either- but why do you feel such a strength towards the glowing pages.
You take a steady breath, trying to rationalise your thoughts, you can feel Wanda’s supportive gaze on you, you’re about to place your fingertips on the edge of the ruined book until a thought, not of your own making appears in your head- “I love you.” You smile to yourself and use Wanda’s encouragement to finish the task.
You close your eyes to centre yourself, but upon opening them you feel your whole body stop. The knowing pinches of anxiety flooding your system.
“What is it detka? What can you see?” Wanda’s heart clenches at the sight in front of her, you look like you’ve just had your worst nightmares displayed right in front of you- maybe she isn’t far from the truth with that comparison.
You are about to describe what you can see, but part of you feels shame in what you perceive.
The page is tainted with words of destruction, horror and fear. Scribes to reveal your capabilities, your duties to the Scarlet Witch. Then in all your glory, you stood in a cosmic blue suit, surrounded by your destined powers.
“Y/n?” Stephen tries to coax you out of your thought process, to give them the answers they need.
“I-it’s me, I am the Scarlet Apprentice.” A flood of tears make their way to your eyes, blurring your vision.
The sight blurred to you is that of pure shock, Wanda knows what she has to do in order to keep you safe, she just needs to have the courage to turn against those who choose to stand in both of your ways.
