The Dalaran Crater Incident
Combat report 29/12/33
Highlady Eirdwen Leah
On the evening of the 29th, the Conclave saw fit to march on a suspicious drawing of ley line energy at the southern rim of the Dalaran Crater. For some days previous I had been monitoring a drain on the lines that left a slight residue of shadow energy, and preliminary scouting trips had shown a weak spot in the Kirin Tor shields. Near the weaker places the grass had withered and died, leading me to suspect the use of uncouth magic.
A force was gathered consisting of myself, Highlord Thoranis, Duchess Aria Libelle, Wrathcaster Fox, Inquisitor Duskveil, Crusader Umbridge, Crusader Marent, and Khorim Blackstone. This force was bolstered considerably by the Light-blessed appearance of George Trueheart, a former crusader under a less honorable lord. He joined our number and marched out with us, proving his true loyalty to the flame. The trail led to a dilapidated two-story house. Inside we found the mangled bodies of three humans, long dead. From the tabards (and location) it was clear that the corpses belonged to Kirin Tor arcanists. Damages suggested that the bodies had been cannibalized. The corpses were given a proper incineration, may their souls find their way to the Light’s embrace. It bears noting that the Tor has been informed via writing, though I doubt my letters will be read with any haste.
The lower floor was otherwise unoccupied. Khorim stayed below to make certain that the bodies were treated respectfully while the rest of us made our way upstairs. In a back room of the second floor we found a forsaken summoner casting a spell. It is in my humble yet educated opinion that the creature was attempting to open a portal of considerable size. Engaging the creature broke it’s concentration, though we were lucky enough to catch it off guard to start. An impressive battle ensued. Wrathcaster Fox showed considerable and admirable restraint, but I would like to take this moment to admonish her to boldness. Training is in order. Crusader Trueheart proved a worthy ally and showed to have been named well for his heart is indeed true to the cause. Khorim Blackstone’s brother, Khormil Firebellow, joined us mid-way through the fight by smashing through walls and floors with a golem-like suit of armor with impressive fire cannons. While far from stealthy, the element of surprise was no longer a worry. His help was greatly appreciated. The creature opened lesser portals to Light-only-knows-where and attempted to flood us with geists. The damned beasts were dispatched handily, though the summoner was able to let loose a nauseating blast of foul magic. Myself and others were hit, but the Highlord was able to reflect a great deal of the spell back onto the Scourged monster.
In the end, Khorim fired a blast directly into the creature’s face and reduced it to bone shards and rot. The initial plan was to capture the monster, but we contented ourselves with searching the corpse. Nothing of worth was found, but it is presumed that the monster was opening a large portal to bring troops closer to the Lordaeron Front.
The building was very unstable following the use of Khormil’s suit, so we razed the whole house once it was cleared. A portal was opened back to Stormwind for the evening as we relished the Light’s blessing. One less Scourged monster to terrorize the holy, praise the Blessed Light and glory to the Scarlet Flame!
