sonic shippers. come here. please. give me ur theses on ur fave ships. especially rarepairs. i want to hear about why youre so invested in them. i want to try what youre cooking.
in exchange i shall spread my rougaze propaganda. my them. rouge sees romance as a challenge and neither she or blaze will willingly back down. they match each others stubbornness. they ALSO match each others wits and people skills. its enrichment for them. but crucially they are doomed. their priorities are too different and they dont Want a long term relationship. theyre a quick supernova. yet their priorities are fundamentally the same bc its abt the people they love. rouge wont leave team dark and blaze wont leave her world. blaze and rouge get together on the train (read my fic) and they have a firestorm of a romance that ends soooo messily <3 they both wish the other changed and knew she wouldnt and knew she COULDNT. and yet they still want it.
@sonicfemslashweek i didnt know this was happening so im a teensy bit late but!! in the spirit of the event, i wanted to draw scarletfires sol forms, Burning Blaze and Radiant Rouge!
thank you for enjoying what ive made of them!! scarletfire is so awesome to me i need them to explode badly <333 theyre sooo terrible situationship thats gloriously beautiful for the short time they share dimensions until it blows up again due to their differing priorities to me and i LOVE IT. they could even have a happy ending with blaze eventually joining team dark once she retires from princesshood, i think she'd fit well :]
alr just had a crazy scarletfire thought. blaze is secretly insecure about her flat chest, rouge is secretly insecure about the over sexualization she gets due to her large chest. they both show each other they’re beautiful 💜🤍
this ask got me thinking. because youre not wrong, this could be an excellent prompt for them. character-wise, i think rouge is more upset than insecure about it ("insecure about being oversexualized" is a weird concept to me. it CAN work but like. most of the time it Wont), but she and blaze havent gotten Close enough for her to drop the flirty mask just yet, so the interaction wouldnt be much different. i assume this is meant to be suggestive, im very ace, i would not know, nor do i care about that.
but. like. my view on sonics world is kind of. fundamentally incompatible with this?
prepare for an elaborate deconstructive ramble under the cut.
okay. so. i am one of those people who thinks ever implying the mobian women had breasts or needed to cover up for any reason that ~mysteriously~ doesnt apply to the guys was a terrible, terrible idea. sally acorn was a good design (flawless, even!) when she only had an open jacket and boots and im forever mad they fucked up the one opportunity they had on this front.
im ALSO forever amd that they made rouges body color her muzzle color and just. kept it that way forever. thereby implying its either all skin or very thin fur. and shes the only one! there were other bats in old sonic comics, and they didnt look like rouge; their wings were connected to their arms, and they had bodies and limbs of their implied fur color.
obviously, i dont match them perfectly, and i dont expect rouge to. i didnt even know they existed until ten minutes ago. i just want rouge to fit better within the main cast, and for them to STOP DOING THIS TO THE WOMEN PLEASE GOD. [you may notice a small detail from my sonic channel redraw is that blazes thigh is partially fur-purple; i live in a world where shes not arbitrarily wearing pants. shes actually got a lot of white spotting.]
because of this, if you asked me what rouge looks like, i would say she looks like this:
the bellybutton is optional, as thats rarely drawn on sonic characters, and the fat would likely be less defined, but whats crucial here to me is that shes just. a mobian. the most "breasts" she has is the same any fat man would get, because the sonic characters all share the pectoral structure of a human torso when the artists feel like defining it. fuck it, have my literal first doodle of big for comparison.
[patch notes: doodle replaced. its better now] big has the same kind of fat rolls i give rouge. if he doesnt have to cover up, neither should she.
but, like, i also like rouges character design? her outfit is part of the persona she plays for GUN; which is, as we know, primarily human, and Would take issue with a quote unquote "nude" woman. THEY would likely want her to cover up, because their society is actually built like ours. her outfits play around human standards, which could have been interesting if they had stayed human standards.
even if sonic women DID have breasts, id maintain that they shouldnt need to arbitratrily cover them, but as-is, i personally find constantly grafting breasts onto nonhuman characters Weird and arbitrary, especially when theres no point to it design-wise.
and like. even if we assume that they Do have breasts, what reason would blaze have for having small breasts? why does the "graceful" woman have a small chest and the "seductive" one have a large chest? the deeper you go the more layers of misogyny you start spotting!
but whatever. for this one prompt. this one moment. lets assume that a) mobian women have breasts, and b) blazes and rouges chest sizes are as stated. why is blaze insecure?
no, really. thats another layer of assumption we'd have to make that i find arbitrary: the insecurity. its implied that blaze is insecure simply Because her chest is "too small", which is a very human and very arbitrary standard. but where the FUCK would she get that from in the first place? outside of the main cast, blazes only (???) friend is marine, and she lives on a giant ocean as the protector of the sol emeralds. romance isnt a factor in her life. whether or not people find her chest conventionally attractive is inconsequential to her story and character.
sure, we could say she gets this from finding the other women of the cast particularly beautiful, or that its a beauty standard in her world shes aware of and wants to fulfill for some reason, or whatever. we could come up with any number of arbitrary scenarios for an arbitrary prompt built on misogyny in several deep and intricate layers. but would that add to blaze and rouges character? would it add to their dynamic? is the sonic world more interesting when the misogyny is baked into every piece, or when different cultures and species have different standards? why should we assume any of the layers are true?
but theres still SOMETHING here. rouge and blaze share opposite ends of a particular feature, and feel insecure about it. both of them show the other that they think said feature is beautiful (probably through sex, the solver of all problems*, based on the wording). which is a fascinating concept to me because i think their relationship blows up and dies the MOMENT blaze has to go home. so, like, two weeks, tops. which isnt contradictory to the prompt, and makes it more fascinating. rouge keeping her flirty mask up, but still showing vulnerability. maybe she didnt even mean to! maybe blaze is just really good at reading her, and vice versa. id have to think on it awhile more to actually make something, but you ARE cooking.
