amongst the plethora of scars marring simon's body, some of the most jagged and tender are the ones that encircle his wrists and ankles.
roba and his cartel, as stated, had torture methods 'the kremlin couldn't even dream of.' a lot of simon's more brutal, prominent scars, he owes to roba and his men — both mental and physical ones. injuries sustained during service were often treated quickly and up to a somewhat professional standard, meaning that while scarring was inevitable, injuries healed far more appropriately. though of course this isn't always to case.
however, under roba's care, it was the opposite. wounds were irritated with the intent to ensure maximum suffering: the same injuries were inflicted in the same place to be sure nothing healed as it should. a lot of simon's time, when not left rotting on the floor of a cell, was spent tied to a bolted down metal chair: wrists and ankles bound with barbed wire. it was rare he ever went down without a fight, rare he ever sat there and wallowed in the darkness, so his struggles accounted for a lot of the marring from said wire. however it was also left on him for days at a time, meaning his skin would begin to mend around the offending barbs until it was wrenched from him for the next round of torture roba cooked up. or he would be strung up by the slack wire between his wrists, limbs forced to bear his weight while tender flesh is torn to shreds.
it's one of the main reasons why simon always wears gloves; even in short sleeves, even in warm weather. they're thick and harrowing and ugly; which, while he doesn't care for aesthetic, he'd rather avoid prodding questions and glances of pity that people think he doesn't clock onto.
alongside this, the 'glasgow smile' bestowed upon him (also courtesy of roba) is another scar he often tends to keep hidden behind his signature balaclava. while the masks help with the concealment of his identity, for simon riley has been dead for a long time, it's also a way to hide the scar that spans from the corner of his lip up to the centre of his cheek. it's a defining feature he'd rather keep hidden for the same reason of having no desire for pitiful glances nor probing questions.
ALANIS & HIS SCARS
Builds off this post which talks about his body pre & post (botched) resurrection
Alanis has electrical/magic scars that often glow a faint lilac -- these scars follow the path of his veins
Often described as "magic and metal vitiligo" there are parts of Alanis's body that are made of muscle, flesh, metal and magic that have been fused together, this is where using Viktor as a faceclaim is especially helpful. Although this vitiligo is scattered across his body it is most prominently seen in his right arm & left side (front & back even tho I was too lazy to edit it to show on the back)
surgery scars = fantasy top surgery scars that glow a soft lilac sometimes (like when he's aroused hehe)
his first death was the result of literally and metaphorically getting stabbed in the back, hence the scar
his facial & body tattoos are for looks, although a few contain magic runes that are either 1) related to the resurrection spell or 2) runes that enhance a spellcaster's natural casting ability

"christ, sean — what did they do to you?"
I. ◞ » ❪ SCARS / JOHN. ❫ / WARNING: MILD BODY GORE MENTIONS.
“ The stigmata , in Christian mysticism , is a collection of bodily marks / scars / pains that replicate the wounds of the crucified Jesus Christ , namely on the hands / wrists , the feet , near the heart , the forehead ( from the crown of thorns ) , and on the shoulders / back ( from scourging / whippings and carrying the cross . ) ”
At the age of eighteen , John became the only known living stigmatic , taking on the wounds of Christ over the span of several weeks . This included open and consistently bleeding wounds , clear holes through the flesh that refused to close throughout the duration of this traumatic experience .
As the years went by , the wounds did close , but he was left with very nasty and very visible scarring all along the aforementioned areas . Most are easy to cover , such as the ones near his heart , on his feet , and on his back / shoulders ; he frequently wears long sleeves and bandages around his wrist to cover up those ones . The only scar that has been unable to hide is the one across his forehead from the crown of thorns .
Personally , he is quite self conscious about the marks he was forced to bear , despite the fact that the Church and its members view him as a sort of hero . He frequently gets stares from strangers in public settings , which does absolutely nothing to help with his anxiety .
Here is his colors so you don't have to find the first picture of him: http://sta.sh/01amcczomp8e
