Review: I Once Was Lost: What Postmodern Skeptics Taught Us About Their Path To Jesus
This book is written by 2 campus ministers from InterVarsity who share about their dealings with an increasingly postmodern society in and around campuses across the country. They share stories about particular people and testimonies that shed much needed light on this complex issue. Talking hundreds and thousands of students throughout their ministry, they came to realize a great deal of commonality and themes when dealing with today's skeptics and unbelievers.
In the book, they identify 5 critical thresholds that all people deal with and eventually need to cross:
Becoming Curious about Christianity
Opening Up to Change one's own life
Entering the true kingdom of God/ accepting Jesus as God and Savior.
It was quite a refreshing read and much of the book was extremely clear and beneficial. They used many real life examples and showed a lot of humility by discussing their struggles and the hardships that came with this type of ministry.
They end with a challenge: Serve non-believers as an end rather than as a means. Challenge yourself by keeping yourself clean from the world while entering the world. Allow non-believers to challenge you and your faith and vice versa. Become a conduit that allows individuals to cross the mentioned barriers and thresholds.
Worthy of your time! It was a quick read, it only took about 3 hours! I will probably read it again!
