Favorite German Words

Die Schnapsdrossel = literally, „schnapps throat” or gorge, a booze hound. A humorous expression for a schnapps drinker or straight-out alcoholic. Originally also a word for a person who, for a few shots of alcohol, will tell on suspects or criminals, like the bum across the street who sees everything or the guy at the bar. It’s slightly dated as it first appeared as a slang word in the late 1800’s but it’s still funny.

A similar word with the same meaning is “Der Schluckspecht”, something like “gulping woodpecker”, as in the bird. Also see this physics toy. :)

I keep thinking about this. Joker has an SR-2 cap in ME2. Which means either Cerberus spent some of their money on producing these hats... or Joker made it himself. Both options are good. (I bet it was Cerberus though. They were like "oh shit, we gotta recruit this pilot guy so Shepard will join up with us, what does he like?" and someone was all "he likes hats" and they put together a Recruit Joker Swag Bag and that's why he signed on).

I like this theory, mostly because I’m imagining Joker being all “I don’t know...” when Cerberus first approaches him and then Miranda is forced to pull out a hat and he says “I’m in.”

ten duel commandments: have you ever been in a physical fight with anyone?

Yes, I have, though I’ve never started one.  I’ve only really been in one fight that punches were thrown instead of one punch here and stepping away.  I am trained in martial arts so it helped just keep the other person away.  No one likes being in a fight, I didn’t enjoy it.

history has its eyes on you: talk about the best teacher you’ve ever had

My best teacher was from my junior year of high school who inspired me to just be....a more complete person?  He made you think about who you are, the choices you made, and definitely made me passionate about history.  He put humor and a lot of care into what he did and managed to just make a class that could have been boring into my favorite class ever.

dear theodosia: what’s one nice thing you wish you could say to someone right now?

I wish I could tell my coworker that this isn’t the end of the world, that he’s a good teacher and that he’s so much better than what this job is making him do.
