We asked Kimi what advice she had for incoming Wisconsin Covenant Scholars, for getting the most out of college, and for managing time and stress. She told us this: "Be willing to take on new adventures, new opportunities, and a whole new way of looking at life! College is a wonderful experience, but make sure to stay on task with your classes, and make new friends. Get involved any way you can, whether it be an organization or different events or jobs on campus. Getting connected with your classmates or even professors makes college all that much better. Also remember that here at UWP, professors do care, and they are willing to talk about anything and everything! One last thing--no matter what classes or major you choose, there will come a point where it becomes stressful. However, even though it may feel nearly impossible, take breaks once in awhile to have some fun and let loose--but don't go completely loose or you'll forget what you truly want in life!
"Take all the advice from upperclassmen you can! I have had so many people say, 'Get involved, get involved,' and I can honestly say that is the best way to go. Meet as many people as you can, because it feels nice to be able to see someone you know wherever you go on campus. Also, go to events, because not only is it a fun time, but it gives you different opportunities to stay connected.
"The biggest tip I have for stress and time management is DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Yeah, that may seem easy to say, but when in college, it is easy to say, 'I'll do it later,' or 'It'll get done eventually.' Making sure that you put time aside every day is a wonderful thing to do so you don't fall behind. I also suggest buying a planner; buying a planner has saved me from so many late assignments and it has become my life! Also what I have found to be helpful is to have someone you trust take your phone or your laptop if you don't need it while you're doing homework. I have found that helps so much with procrastination, and at first, it is hard to go without technology, but it does get easier!"
Wisconsin Covenant Scholars stand out!
Wisconsin Covenant Scholars stand out from a crowd--and Kimi's outgoing personality makes her stand out! "I'm the person that, if it seems quiet and awkward in a room, will start talking about random things to open the room up," she says. "I'm not afraid to look like a fool!" Another thing that makes Kimi stand out is her eyes--she has had glasses since she was a year and a half old, and contacts since the third grade. On campus, Kimi's favorite place to go is the bridge, because there is always something going on, whether it's information for upcoming events or something free, and, as Kimi says, "Who doesn't enjoy free things?!" When she gets a chance to go off campus, Kimi enjoys going to Cherry Berry and eating with friends--it's a lot of fun, and a great stress-reliever!

Fun Facts about our Scholar of the Week!
When asked to describe herself in five words or less, Kimi said, "Leader, ambitious, industrious, compassionate, and dependable." Her favorite TV show is Law and Order: SVU, and she loves all different kinds of music. Back home, Kimi enjoys horseback riding, and has been doing so since she was six months old. She also loves hunting, tubing, and being outdoors. Kimi's favorite UW-Parkside event was Weeks of Welcome. "So many fun and exhilarating events happened, and the most memorable part was that it was mostly free!" Of all the excitement of Weeks of Welcome, Kimi's favorite event was the hypnotist and his mind-bending spoon-bending abilities.
Meet Kimi Spreeman!
This week's Scholar of the Week is Kimi Spreeman! With her house being located four and a half hours away from campus, UW-Parkside was a perfect fit Kimi, both far from home and a place where she could be recognized for working hard. She loves the close-knit atmosphere of UW-Parkside, and that campus is small, so she can stand out! She also likes being able to get to know her professors, her favorite being Professor Thomas Roelke in the Biology Department. As a lab professor, he was extremely caring and very helpful. Kimi says he is very open to questions and and loves teaching. She also enjoyed having classes with Professor Shawn Houtsinger from the English department and Dr. Catherine Mossman from the Biology department. The best class Kimi has taken so far is BIOS 102, Organismal Biology, with Dr.Mossman. "This class was the best because it dealt with organisms, which is what I am most interested in." Kimi's favorite place to study is on the second floor of the library. She says, "I enjoy that it is quiet and not many people are there, but at the same time, you are able to hold conversations. When I am in my room on campus, it is hard to concentrate, which makes the library my go-to place to focus and get my homework accomplished."

We asked Tricia if she had any advice for incoming Wisconsin Covenant Scholars, for getting the most out of college, and for managing time and stress. This was her reply: "For the incoming freshmen, don’t come into college thinking it will be one big gigantic party. You will have opportunities to party and have fun, but also remember that you aren't paying to go here to just party. You’re paying for an education that will help you get a job and make money! Take that part seriously, but also allow for some safe fun and college will be a great experience for you!
"Use your resources! If you’re having trouble with class, go to the tutoring center, or if you’re confused about your financial aid reward, go to the financial aid office! There are people here to help you with any dilemma you may have--you just have to ask.
"Whenever I feel stressed out, may it be working on a project or paper for class, or just stressed because of life in general, I go to the SAC and run on the elliptical. It’s really relaxing and it gives me energy to then complete the task that I was stressing out over. I also sometimes give myself incentives to finish a task. For example, if I finish one page of the paper I’m working on, I’ll reward myself with a smoothie from the den."
