Make a Difference Day
Join the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars for Make a Difference Day, a national day of volunteering, on Saturday, October 26th!
The day begins at 8am and finishes around noon. We will meet in the Student Center Atrium to pick up t-shirts, refreshments, and our volunteer assignment. We will be serving sites in Racine and Kenosha, and can make suggestions for particular volunteer locations if you have a preference.
If you are interested in participating, the Wisconsin Covenant sign up is on Kelley's door in the Office of Admissions, Student Center D105L.
Wisconsin Covenant Event Update!
Hope these first few weeks have been an easy transition back to school for everyone.
Last Tuesday, the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars met to discuss various ideas for activities to do together. Here is a summary of what we discussed in case you missed it:
1. We would like to get together for dinner in the Brickstone as a group just to catch up with each other every two weeks or so. We will meet at 5pm in the Bricksone, and will rotate the dinner days so that there is hopefully an opportunity for everyone to come to at least one dinner! Here are the dates:
Monday, October 7
Tuesday, October 22
Wednesday, November 6
Thursday, November 21
Monday, December 2
2. Many of you were interested in volunteer opportunities. We are planning to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity once a month, and tentatively have planned the first Saturday of the month so mark your calendars. More information on this will follow!
3. There was a lot of interest in participating in a Run/Walk event, either as a runner or a volunteer. Sadly, there are not very many opportunities for us to do this during the Fall Semester. Instead, we are looking to follow up with this idea in the Spring Semester, where there will hopefully be more options and opportunities.
4. Each semester the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars try to get together for a fun activity, and there were many fun ideas discussed. We would like your input on these! Please take this survey to let us know which activity you would like to do!
5. I moved! My office is still in the Office of Admissions (STCR D105), but I moved to the back office. Stop by to see me in D105L!
As all Wisconsin Covenant Scholars do ;)
Signing Off!
We asked Kimi what advice she had for incoming Wisconsin Covenant Scholars, for getting the most out of college, and for managing time and stress. She told us this: "Be willing to take on new adventures, new opportunities, and a whole new way of looking at life! College is a wonderful experience, but make sure to stay on task with your classes, and make new friends. Get involved any way you can, whether it be an organization or different events or jobs on campus. Getting connected with your classmates or even professors makes college all that much better. Also remember that here at UWP, professors do care, and they are willing to talk about anything and everything! One last thing--no matter what classes or major you choose, there will come a point where it becomes stressful. However, even though it may feel nearly impossible, take breaks once in awhile to have some fun and let loose--but don't go completely loose or you'll forget what you truly want in life!
"Take all the advice from upperclassmen you can! I have had so many people say, 'Get involved, get involved,' and I can honestly say that is the best way to go. Meet as many people as you can, because it feels nice to be able to see someone you know wherever you go on campus. Also, go to events, because not only is it a fun time, but it gives you different opportunities to stay connected.
"The biggest tip I have for stress and time management is DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Yeah, that may seem easy to say, but when in college, it is easy to say, 'I'll do it later,' or 'It'll get done eventually.' Making sure that you put time aside every day is a wonderful thing to do so you don't fall behind. I also suggest buying a planner; buying a planner has saved me from so many late assignments and it has become my life! Also what I have found to be helpful is to have someone you trust take your phone or your laptop if you don't need it while you're doing homework. I have found that helps so much with procrastination, and at first, it is hard to go without technology, but it does get easier!"

Fun Facts about our Scholar of the Week!
When asked to describe herself in five words or less, Kimi said, "Leader, ambitious, industrious, compassionate, and dependable." Her favorite TV show is Law and Order: SVU, and she loves all different kinds of music. Back home, Kimi enjoys horseback riding, and has been doing so since she was six months old. She also loves hunting, tubing, and being outdoors. Kimi's favorite UW-Parkside event was Weeks of Welcome. "So many fun and exhilarating events happened, and the most memorable part was that it was mostly free!" Of all the excitement of Weeks of Welcome, Kimi's favorite event was the hypnotist and his mind-bending spoon-bending abilities.
