I'm like, super super super nervous. I submitted art for the scholastic competition and I don't know if it's, like, good enough :( this is the first time someone is seeing my digital art other than friends and family... :( sorry, just a worrisome flake over here. 😔

I GOT A GOLD KEY
THIS MAKES ME SO SO HAPPY!
Two LC Juniors Recognized for Exemplary Writing
Juniors Suzie Jung and Natalia Gutierrez have both been recognized and honored for their exemplary writing in two prestigious programs. Suzie won a Silver Key Award in the Scholastic Writing Awards for her personal narrative that delves into the effects of school bullying, and Natalia was named a semifinalist in the Smith College Poetry Prize for Girls competition for her poem, “Las Raíces,” which explores family heritage and culture.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards date back to 1923 and are an opportunity to recognize students for their creative talents. The essay Suzie submitted was a personal narrative assignment from her English teacher, Sally Knight. “The personal narrative assignment gave me an opportunity to tell Ms. Knight something about myself in a more serious manner,” Suzie said. “I was very surprised when I won a Silver Key Award because I always felt as though I wasn’t good at writing. Loomis has such a rigorous English program, and I’ve improved over my three years here. Without the support and encouragement of the LC community, I probably wouldn’t have entered into the awards.”
The Smith poetry competition is affiliated with the Poetry Center at Smith College. Each year a panel of students and faculty chooses semifinalist and finalist poems from work submitted by sophomore and junior girls throughout New England. Poet Aracelis Girmay this year selected the winning poems from the finalists.
