school assembly summercore is underrated. i miss having cheap bracelets and messily painted rubber ducks thrown at me and my classmates for answering trivia about some brand promotion nobody actually cared about while the sun welded us to the bleachers
Yesterday was my school's winter assembly and they were playing Christmas songs and junk, like normal, and all of a sudden,
Mcr starts playing
All the non-edgy kids were so confused but every emo in the auditorium (aka 3/4 of the school) started singing along and it was glorious. The vice-principal told the guy in the light and sound booth (our theatre teacher) to change the song sadly, but it shall be a staple in our department's history.
we had one of those anti drug assemblys today. Instead of the average “person rants about opiods for an hour”, the school payed “DJ CHOICES” to throw a rave in our auditorium. there was flashing lights, smoke machines, and dubstep music. They made everyone sit still and watch interviews with former drug addicts with intervals of music and laser shows. Also, no one could breath due to the smoke machines.
After all of that, they brought in a rehabilitated drug user and his 3 year old son. He discussed how his life was affected and stuff, then took questions.
TEENS ON TOUR (1ST REHEARSAL)
What happens in a first rehearsal?
1. Get to know what Phantom Projects is all about
2. Some Behind-the-Scenes footage of being a teen on tour.
3. Going over rules, scheduling, etc.
4. Then a read thru of the entire script
This coming weekend the cast will be having an all day rehearsal of Q & A. a very important part to this show because our young actors will be engaging in conversation with Students. This show specifically has post show discussion with every school, so making sure all actors are ready & prepared to answer any question with confidence and ease is not easy.
Especially with such a powerful show answers need to be thought. So we take a full day to go over a whole packet of questions students might ask but also allows our young actors to start to think about their own lives and situations they’ve gone through so they might be able to share with students... to make them not feel alone in these topics.
Needless to say this weekend will be very important for these actors because in order to act truthfully one must understand themselves and all their emotions completely.
When a student host of the assembly wasn’t a good idea
Book Update! (kinda?)
This coming Friday, February 3rd, I will be presenting multiple assemblies at North Hills High School, in Pittsburgh, PA, discussing my books (duh), science education, and the writing process!
I’m also trying to find other places to give talks, speeches, assemblies, and presentations about these topics. If you would like me to make an appearance, or know someone or an organization/school that might, check out THIS PAGE for more detailed information and how to get in contact with me.
So excited for this assembly day! I’m making a two-and-a-half-day vacation out of it (avec ma petite amie! :) )
