man i. love gakkou gurashi. i love yuki so much. i love how in this distinct world of horror anime that does the cute-then-edgy-plot-twist thing, this anime has yuki, a character with a psychotic disorder who is the absolute sunshine that motivates the rest of the group to keep going and find happiness amidst all of the trauma they’re going through. how she is not sunny and cute and gung-ho in spite of her psychosis— and it’s NOT a “the cute ones are always scary” trope— but because it is a part of her. how she also is coded to have some learning disabilities and the rest of the girls are patient with her, how there is no point to be made about being patient with her, and it still is not IN SPITE OF— of course they are patient with her, even in deadly situations where maybe she takes longer to process what is happening. especially in those situations. they love her.
you keep expecting there to be a reveal about yuki’s “dark side” bc that’s just what horror media does with disabled and psychotic characters but there is no dark side. she is a traumatized, psychotic girl who is coping the best she can and wants all her friends to be happy. who loves her school, who would do anything for her club. i could go on and on about this.
