"Listen to me," Lucius says, "I'll be right back. You won't even notice I'm gone."
The Ravenclaw student in front of him looks petrified, both of him and the headmaster. "I can't," he whispers. "You aren't even supposed to know I have it -"
"The Headmaster won't know," Lucius says softly. He uses his height - the product of a growth spurt last year - to tower over his classmate. "It doesn't have a tracking charm on it. I'll be there and back." He snaps his fingers.
The third-year shakes his head. "No. I can't."
Lucius smiles. "You know who my family is, don't you? We have more money in our pockets than your entire family has in their vault at Gringott's. You could be well-paid for doing me a favor."
The student looks around like a Dementor is going to come out of a closet and give them the Kiss. "What if I get expelled?"
"You won't, Headmaster Dumbledore is a pushover," Lucius says. The student looks unsure. He has to push further. "My friend Ivan Edelman says that, anyways." Calling them friends is a very generous stretch, but Lucius rightly bets that everyone below sixth year is terrified of Edelman. The student shivers, bends, and draws the amulet up over his head before carefully placing it in Lucius's hand.
"You sure you won't get caught?" he says, voice small.
"I never get caught," Lucius says, taking the time-turner. He flicks it back to one hour before, when he'd walked into class and gotten a bad grade on his Transfiguration exam.
