Ruby’s Guide On SciOly Must Haves
Ok, so these mini blog posts are geared toward the newer side of the SciOly spectrum, but these posts could obviously go for anyone and help whoever learns from it :)
Honestly must haves for SciOly isn’t really laid out to a huge science (hA) for most people, especially material wise. But for me I like being prepared, so maybe this post will help some of you get more prepared, too.
So I hope you enjoy, and maybe learn a thing or two. Without further a do, my absolute must haves for SciOly:
** NOTES !!!:
Pretty explanatory, you’d obviously need them.
- Pens, pencils, highlighters:
Once again, pretty explanatory. A lot of people only bring a pencil, but I really like over doing my notes (studyblr blessing and a curse) so I bring a sharpie pen and a highlighter, mostly for heading and lining / highlighting important things (if your doing drafts for notes you’re gonna type, this comes in handy so much you don’t even know)
- A laptop:
Most schools provide these in the form of school property chrome books, mine do. You’d need it for during meetings as a source to go over when typing notes / building. I honestly wouldn’t be anywhere without using a computer, cause the truth is you can’t get as far as you think you could in SciOly without it.
- Any wood / tools I need for building projects:
Lol, obviously you’d need these. Especially if you’re SciOly coach can’t get these for you. (I always recommend checking in with coaches and asking what they can and can’t get and what you need to get on your own)
- Paper, a fair amount.:
Mostly because of measurements and notes drafting (lol I’m mentioning notes drafting a lot, and I cant wait to get into it at a later date). Most coaches don’t bring paper with them, and other teammates find it sO annoying when you ask so make sure you bring some.
- A calculator:
Okok, so this sounds really weird but you actually might need it. Building events and practice and such. This one if more,, optional cause there are only a few times you actually use them, mostly around time for competition when you’re practicing for A&T and DD.
- Any testing tubes / pH strips / other things needed for ______ event:
This is also optional, depending if you’re in Crime Busters or any event that involves materials you need to bring. It doesn’t even have to be materials, it could be a book (like the books for Rocks & Minerals) or any other learning tool that you need to have / study off of for an event.
Ruby’s Handy Dandy tip for SciOly study sessions / meetings:
- If you have a question, ASK IT:
Especially if it’s your first year. I know in my first year I didn’t ask all the questions I wish I did and I regretted it so much. Even if you think it’s stupid, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
