Smith Museum of Art Gift Shop!
I’m always looking for fun new places to check out and experience on campus, and thanks to my summer job, I get paid partly to explore campus for the summer. Last Thursday afternoon, my coworker Minji and I took a trip to the Smith Museum of Art’s Gift Shop! The shop was having an outdoor sidewalk sale along with most shops/small businesses in downtown Northampton this past Thursday-Sunday (Sidewalk sales always happen the last weekend of July!). After poking around in their tent outside, we headed inside to spend some time in the regular shop as well, where we met the shop’s former manager as well as the new manager, Justin, who is excited about getting students more involved in the Museum shop and promoting both the shop and the Museum more through social media! Minji and I had a great chat with him and exchanged contact information!

The shop has a lot of relatively inexpensive jewelry, postcards, and other trinkets in addition to their larger items, so Justin is hoping to get more to think of the shop when in need of gifts for family and friends, or even something for themselves. So, next time you’re in need of a last minute gift, you might not even need to leave campus!

On Thursday, there was a really cool event at the Smith College Museum of Art called Zodiac Kickback, to celebrate (?) the start of the new semester! Bringing in truly delicious pies from the Florence Pie Bar, cookies and other sweets, there was also tarot card and birth chart readings. I didn’t get to the event in time to get my birth chart read, but I still enjoyed the other activity--embroidery! I’ve actually never embroidered before, so I watched Naomi do hers first. Hers turned out quite well! We’re both Libras, so that made it easier after watching her embroider our shared star symbol. This event has made me even more excited for Night at Your Museum, coming up in late February!
night at your museum [2.24.17]
every spring semester, the smith college museum of art hosts a ~fancy~ catered event where the galleries stay open late and students dress up and look at art. i went with some of my housemates, and we ate crusty bread and took cute & silly pics in front of our favorite works!
Such an amazing and memorable Climb Smart in Joshua Tree this weekend past... incredible light shows and torrential storms direct from Mother Nature energized the already energetic crowd around education, stewardship and collaboration with JTNP. Special shout out to the guiding organizations, sponsors and partner orgs who made it all go... and to our dear Bernadette! #climbsmart2018 #joshuatreenationalpark @joshuatreefriends @accessfund @adidasterrex @sterlingrope @adventure16 @gearcoop @blackdiamond #SCMA @guides_institute @cliffhangerguides @climber_stewards @lowa.outdoor @arcteryxlabrea @petzl_official @fiveten_official @flophouseresoles @climbingtechtips @climbonmaps @climbingmagazine @team_edelrid @dynamitestarfish @rei @nativesoutdoors @scarpana (at Joshua Tree Astronomy Arts Theater) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo-Cyd0Duxr/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nwzem4ugv3mu

So pleased about the positive feedback we received to our panel discussion at the SCMA Family Mediation Institute in Orange County California last weekend. My co-panelists, @KathleenCoble of #BookMediation, @ShannonVajda of #MediationPracticeinaBox and I spoke to Family Mediators about incorporating innovations in the practice into their business model to be more efficient and accessible in order to be more profitable! I was happy to share practical tips and best practices for incorporating online mediation services into an existing practice in streamlined and cost-effective manner.
