"Even now just looking at you feels wrong." - past scogen, hopefully bb!version
Imogen tried not to laugh at the way he averted his eyes, clearly uncomfortable with her outfit of choice for the dance at the middle school. The changes in her body had seemingly happened overnight, and every guy in school had noticed, Scott being no exception. She didn't mean to tease him, but if he kept making it so funny, it was hard to resist.
"Every girl's gonna have a dress on, Scotty. Ain't my fault I can fill it out a little better." Ego remarkably developed for an eighth grader, she stepped closer to her best friend, hooking her finger under his chin to make him look at her instead of at the floor.
"C'mon, you promised you'd come with me. I can't handle the rich kids alone. Now you're gonna keep your promise and come with me, and we're gonna dance, and it's gonna be fine."
His voice was warm through the phone, not antagonizing like it'd had a tendency to be over the past few months. Not to say she'd been any better, but this was a nice change of pace.
Instead it felt like a warning. Like he was reminding her that though at the core they were still the same, their situation wasn't, and she shouldn't forget that.
As if she ever could.
"Scott Curtis, you ain't ever been more wrong in your life."
He protested on the other end of the line and it was so them and so much like what they used to be that Imogen had to bite down on her lip to stop from laughing out loud from relief because she really thought that was gone forever. She should've known better.
They weren't fixed. Not by a long shot. But they could be.
"Don't argue with me. We both know it ain't ever gotten you anywhere. Tomorrow I'm going to see you and it doesn't matter how long it's been or how much we've both changed because I could pick your dumb face out of any crowd and I know we ain't there yet, but just know I'm achin' for the moment that dumb face gives me permission to hug ya again."
❝You’re supposed to be my family.❞ - sorry this isn't happy but it made me think scogen idk sorry
Imogen smiled softly, forever comforted by Scott's ability with words. He didn't say much, not about his feelings, but when he did it was so honest and raw that there was no need for him to say anything else.
She was back in Rosewood and it was the first time they'd managed to have a full conversation without fighting, or insulting each other.
It was four in the morning and she was thinking about the lights of New York City and his words and her life and everything that was home.
"I am your family. I could move across the friggin' world and I'd be your family. That's what I've been trying to tell you for months now. Moving away never had anything to do with you. You're the only thing pullin' me back to this place, anyway."
Imogen gritted her teeth as Scott's fingers trailed lightly over her torso, making her cracked ribs throb. She wanted to show that it hurt but she was too lost in the fact that she was still alive and Scott was touching her.
Mainly the Scott touching her part.
"A little," she said, because she knew he'd stop if she lied. He stopped anyway, immediately pulling his hand away from her body and instead shifting to lie beside her.
"Only a little!" Imogen insisted, but he wasn't having any of it, instead lifting his arm so she could settle into him at her own pace, and she did, being mindful of the stupid IV and her various injuries.
"Next time?"
Scott nodded, gingerly pressing a kiss to the top of her head as if he were afraid to hurt her further, but she felt the warmth all the same and it didn't take all that long to drift off to sleep.
The silence pressed in on her like the way she wished his arms would wrap around her, so secure she knew neither of them would break it first. How long had it been? Six months? Seven? They'd bumped into each other in the park and hadn't said a word.
Would they ever?
She knew he'd been to the city a few times and hadn't told her, finding out instead from Perrie and Baby. He was really, really mad at her and she couldn't blame him.
But that didn't make it hurt any less.
Now she just stared, mouth slightly open in shock, taking in his subtle hint of scruff and those eyes and the way his jaw was clenched, trying to understand what was running through his head.
She might've started to cry if the rain hadn't beat her to it.
Cursing, she started fishing around in her purse for an umbrella, before remembering she'd left the house without it. Resigning herself to getting wet, she looked up at him again to say something, anything to Scott, to see if he'd even say something back.
Instead, he was looking at her purposefully and without saying anything, he was shrugging off his jacket and putting it over her shoulders, covering her now lighter hair with the hood.
And so they stood in the rain, still no words, only the question if the words would ever come pulsing between them.
rooper;
"Rocio, come on! It's gonna pour any second now."
Rocio shrugged, hair in loose waves streaming down her back, wearing nothing but the sheet she'd taken from the bed of their beach house they'd rented for spring break, too excited to see the stars on the waves to get dressed.
Which was a waste of time with them anyway, lost in the whirlwind of whatever this was, lost in each other.
He knew it was a lost cause, and stepped out onto the sand after her, throwing on a jacket over his bare chest but leaving it unzipped, sweats tugged on haphazardly.
Wrapping his arms around her from behind, Coop leaned down and pressed a kiss to a hickey he'd left on her neck. "Come inside."
As he predicted, it was starting to rain, and it only took a matter of seconds for it to strengthen into a downpour, and Rocio only shook her head again, turning to face him.
Letting the now useless soaked sheet fall to the ground, she watched as he swallowed hard, eyes dipping over her bare, wet skin.
"Stay outside."
He kissed her, and he pulled her close, and together they made lightning.
".....Okay. So. That's the first time I've heard your voice since I left for New York. This isn't real, right? Like, you're gonna get this voicemail and you're gonna call me back and you're gonna tell me to quit callin' you and leave you alone and that's gonna be okay because if you hate me, at least you're-- at least you're here, right? I ain't good with words and I-I don't... know how to explain how much I'd choose you hating me and never wanting to see me again as long as I knew somewhere on this fucked up planet you were out there breathing and happy and smirking and teasin' people and with the guys and-- fuck. This isn't real, right? I ain't tellin' you I love you because this isn't real. Now quit-- quit fuckin' around and tell me this isn't real."
who cooks isn't even a question ok scott washed peppers with dish soap he's a lost cause
a lot. they live to fight because they both are so damn stubborn and feel things so passionately but it's not the toxic sort of fight but it's because i guess they need to fight for each other all the time?? it's just super passionate idek how to explain it.
well right now imogen's moping and miserable so i mean. i don't see them functioning well apart from each other.
i don't think imogen would ever have nicknames for him aside from when she calls him dummy and stuff like that. obviously she's im and imo to all the greasers.
probably scott. she would fight him tooth and nail over it but i'm sure he'd find a way to pay for dinner.
a scogen cuddling session is a constant battle for the covers.
HAHA WHAT WOULD THEY GET EACH OTHER FOR GIFTS //HAHA// friendly reminder about the photo album and butterfly from christmas wah.
i was gonna say imogen remembers things but idk scott pays attention really subtly it always makes her heart flutter 'cause he knows the most random shit about her.
