Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants, 4/21/2026! notes under cut!

GIANTS WIN!!!!! LETSGO!! LANDON ROUPP WAS GREAT (mostly) AND RYAN WALKER WAS A COMPETENT CLOSER!!! WE REMEMBERED HOW TO HIT THERE FOR A SECOND!!!!

okay, got that out of the way. very much a nailbiter of a game, but i cant be mad at that! ryan walker is a good closer when he actually uh. closes. landon roupp was also great, except for when he started to walk dudes. you cant be walking dudes! (although i think its nice that walking in a run is the only way the dodgers scored. it could have been worse!!!)

and what a pitching performance from yamamoto! except for there at the beginning. i have said my one nice thing about the dodgers.

now onto the scoring notes: my scanner made this scorecard very pale for some reason, so i had to sharpen the fuck out of it to get good visibility. so sorry if that looks a little weird!

for the kim/rojas/pages statline, you can see how i divide a box like that for three batters rather than two as above. you can decide which statline is rojas vs pages, as they had the same number of at bats, hits, runs, and rbis.

i also have been trying out replacing the LOB thing at the box score with ABS challenges- with the filled in ones being 'used up', so you can see here that the dodgers had a challenge left at the end, and the giants lost both of theirs. this is subject to change, but ive been liking it! i need to get better at actually indicating where the ABS challenges happen.

and yes, i was wearing my lucky hat today :)

Nothing Happens First Listen Score Card

hey! i decided to give my first impressions and first top fives of wallow’s latest album, Nothing Happens! Again, all a matter of opinion :)

Only Friend: 7.8/10 - first up to bat, and blew my mind. makes me feel like i’m riding in the bed of a beat up old red pickup racing down an old road in the desert as the sun sets. vocals are phenomenal. 

Treacherous Doctor: 8.1/10 - props for making Only Friend flow right into Treacherous Doctor. Honestly, this song belongs in the beginning of a coming of age movie in the opening credits. Has me sitting in my bed in the dark bouncing to the beat. also big bass boost vibes. 

Sidelines*: 7/10 - i love this song, but the beginning of it makes me :////. the rest of the song is flawless, but i don’t really wish it was a single. really catchy. 

Are You Bored Yet? Feat. Clairo*: 6/10 - classic example of the beat being wonderful, but the lyrics just not hitting correctly. not saying the vocals are bad, i just don’t exactly enjoy the lyrics. 

Scrawny*: 9/10 - easily one of my favorite songs on the album. suuuuuuuuuper catchy. makes me wanna go to an alt. festival. so just, nice. it’s so smooth and the beat and the lyrics are just WOAH. catch me blasting this while I drive.

Ice Cold Pool: 9/10 - the fucking HORNS, holy shit!!! “it’s pretty cold though, i just need you here to warm me up this time” HOLY FUCK???? again, easily one of my favorites. top five. makes me wanna launch myself into SPACE, YO. 

Worlds Apart: 6/10 - feels like a grunge “If I Could Tell Her”. really sad. kinda slow, too. a lower rating just cause i don’t think it measures up to the other songs as well. the lyrics are amazing, though. 

What You Like: 8.7/10 - weird but oddly nice transition from Worlds Apart. feels like if the beatles were formed in the 80s. Nice beats, vocals. Slowly working it’s way into my heart. Curse you, Dylan Minette.

Remember When: 9.5/10 - holy shit!! again with the guitar layered over like weird soothing indie beats?? it just WORKS so WELL?? the ooooh’s? is this what they play in heaven????? so fuckin dreamy. so so fucking dreamy. feels like you’re hearing an acid trip at the same time. the best song on the record.

I’m Full: 8.4/10 - fucking funky! superb you funky little band kids! all jokes aside, this song makes me wanna run down the halls of my school screaming after the bell’s rung. very summery. i feel like the criminal from breakfast cul would listen to this.

Do Not Wait: 9/10 - reminds me of the end of bo burnham’s make happy, the end techno show and his monolouging. give such a finality to the album. like a ‘we were here. we made this, with blood sweat and tears, so fuck you, here’s a six minute song to send it all home’. a punctuation mark at the end of ‘Nothing Happens’. saying ‘this is it. it’s over. and what about it?’ the meaning of life is within this song.

detroit tigers at boston red sox, 4/17/2026! notes under cut!

red sox walk off win!!!! i was lucky enough to be scoring this live, which was great, and i was also lucky enough that this game only went into the 10th inning, because otherwise i was going to run out of room.

this is the numbers game pocket sized scorebook! its small, its portable, and it is very well designed. they also make the #22 scorebook, which i plan on picking up one day, as it looks right up my alley. maybe next season!

not much to say scoring-wise here, it was all pretty straightforward. a whole lotta nothing happening for most of the game, which i am never mad at. that's the whole point of baseball, after all. i also forgot to put in all of the numbers for at bats, hits, runs, etc before i took this photo. oh well, you can count them yourselves!

USA v Canada, March 13th, 2026! notes under cut!

ah, this is a very late post. but yay venezuela!! didnt score that game, as i decided to only score games logan webb started. (sorry, but i am biased towards my giants.) and now we are (as of posting) six days out from the regular season!

not much to say, really. logan webb struck out a bunch of dudes, yay, i miss having ABS already (who woulda thought?) and i am excited for baseball this year! although less excited now, that hayden birdsong will be out all season with tommy john. yikes.

thinking about making a post before the season starts with all of my scoring stuff- what i use, why i use it, etc. its not a super involved system, but it is a system, and i am picky, and it would be nice to have on the blog as an archive of what i used.

giants v mariners, spring training, 2/21! notes under cut!

whoo boy this was difficult. not the actual scoring, (except for that fielders choice out) but all the substitutions! this is my first time scoring a spring training game, and i am not looking forward to all of the substitutions in the next one. you can tell i kind of just gave up at one point, as i stopped writing guys names in. there were a couple of pitchers after the last ones i wrote down, and probably a few position players subbed in as well.

also my first time scoring on my ipad, and i am not sure i like it just yet. paper doesn't run out of battery! i do like this scorecard, however, thank you thirty81 press. you can get them for free on the website, and they also have a nice option where you can get a scorecard with the actual ballpark dimensions in the corner. i personally dont like mapping my hits, but if thats your thing, go crazy!

actual thoughts about the game: man i wish hayden birdsong did better. that was brutal. seems mostly mental for him, which sucks. also, great to get to listen to kruk and kuip on the radio! even if the giants end up being mid, our broadcasters sure arent.

New York Yankees at San Francisco Giants, 3/25/2026. (opening night!) notes under cut!

okay not the start of the season i wanted!! logan webb.... that was not a good outing. once again no one in the giants lineup can hit. hoping that opening day is going to be better because losing 7-0 is just not good at all, but maybe losing opening day is a good sign?? like its different, at least, ill take that. i dont have much to say about this game, but i do have some stuff to say about my scoring!

also sorry if the scorecards are a bit too light to read, i couldnt find my eraseable pen so i just used pencil. which is better archivally, but a little harder to see when i scan the scorecards.

first square-scorebook (or squorebook) scoring of the season... overall very pleased! i have used this scorecard last year, but only very briefly. this scorecard is pretty simple (esp in contrast to the thirty81 scorecard) which i am just fine with.

World! Baseball! Classic! USA vs Brazil, March 6th, 2026. notes under cut!

such a fun game to score! and yes it took me three days to count all the at bats, rbis, runs, hits, etc...

i am only planning to score wbc games that logan webb is pitching in, so look forward to that. it was great to hear all the glazing from the announcers, like yes that is our ace! also the ump cam of his slider was sweet as fuck.

still apprehensive about scoring on the ipad, but this is better than the giant rawlings scorecard that i was using before. need to find a happy medium....
