Genuinely curious to ask, I don’t know if this has been asked or clarified yet but…..what EXACTLY is the Henry V AU about? If this has already been answered ,my bad! ^^’
Hello!!!! Thank you so much for this question! I love getting questions about the HV AU and I love love love sharing what its about!!!!
On the surface, the HV AU is an opposite/mirror au for THSC. Where the Toppats become the good guy outlaws (The Cowwoys) who actively try to help people and save the helpless. Meanwhile, the GOVT becomes a public-and-private corporation (The TVOG) who has built a system that exploits as much of their own humans as possible in order to benefit their rich and wealthy.
This change of dynamic also changes the world itself. The TVOG are bodies that rule over the world as faux-utopia, with the Cowwoys trying to dismantle the corporation with the small people power they have.
And because of that, I would say that the core of the HV AU is exploring the impacts that a corporations-first society has on its people –- and the FOCUS of the AU is about how people still try to live.
Alot of what I think about for the HV AU is mostly about the characters and their relationships. For example, one of my favourite characters from this AU is Charles Rebelivin. If we look at his original counterpart, Charles Calvin, we can tell that he’s someone who’s upbeat, he’s brotherly to his fellow soldiers. And though he’s aloof, he’s overall competent at his job and confident at what he does. And why? Because he has a good mentor (/father figure) in the form of General Galeforce and he’s working on the side of lawful goods.
Contrast this with the lawful evil of the TVOG corporation, which has turned Charles Rebelivin into someone who’s cynical, someone who bosses and often yells at his employees. And though he’s pretty much an asshole, he would never abuse his power or his employees, and always puts his employees first in terms of priorities. Why is he such a stick in the mud? Because his own boss, Captain Bailfalse, is so lazy and incompetent that Rebelivin has basically been carrying the weight of this company on his back.
So it’s a pretty crapsack world, and sometimes characters have crappy relationships that also trap them. A world ruled by one corporation is not really the best ideal utopia if you ask me. But notice how I mentioned that the focus of the AU is how people still try to live? It’s because, for someone like Charles Rebelivin, whom thought he had no use or life outside of work, is proven wrong by Rose Ellisha, Henry Ventriloquest, and Scott McCoolsvile. Charles, who dedicated a good 30 years of his life to the TVOG, for its cause, for its labor, for all the ache and sprain it caused him, found meaning through friendship. That there is greater meaning to life outside of work, and it is in the friendships formed through wasted time and the willingness to be together.
Speaking from my own experience, I think the best thing someone can do to pull themselves out of a crappy mindset is to surround themself with people who value them as a person, and that they are someone capable of love and to be loved.
☝️ if youre also asking STORYwise. like plot structure. Let's just say for now, it's a story about the Cowwoys trying to take down the TVOG, and the story of Henry Ventriloquest learning to become a real boy. But we'll save that for another post since I feel like this is already pretty long lmao.
