The Marvel Knights era has a lot of jewels that need to be revisited. Few of them happened to be written by the legendary British writer Neil Gaiman (known for his works such as Miracleman, 2000 AD, Sandman and Swamp-Thing for other publishing houses)

In the early 2000s, the writer was approached by Joe Quesada to write something for Marvel. During the time, while ideas were being explored, 9-11 had happened but the what Neil was about to produce would be inspired by his trip to Venice later that year. The result was the reimaging of Marvel Universe in the Elizabethan era and how our favorite heroes in the year 1602 would exist and behave in an age of counts, earls, kings and knights not to mention the ongoing within England between Queen Elizabeth and James VI of Scotland (who would later become king)

He was teamed up with Andy Kubert, 90s superstar artist for Avengers and later X-Men; making Marvel 1602 his 2nd project during Marvel Knights period of Marvel Comics (the first being Origins with Paul Jenkins) while Scott McKowen did the covers that were inspired by Renaissance era 

This limited series stars Nick Fury, Captain America, Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Fantastic Four, X-Men, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Doctor Strange but not in a way as we know them in Earth-616
