Ascott Bonifacio Global City has just launched a new dining destination in the heart of this bustling lifestyle and business district. Scott’s is a charming new gastronomic venture that features flavorful local and Asian cuisine inside a classy and elegant location. Located on the hotel’s second floor, the restaurant promises to be a delightful venue for power lunches and stylish get-togethers, especially with its lineup of authentic international dishes.
Executive Chef Johnny Rodriguez, who hails from Mexico, applies his own philosophy influenced by his exposure to different countries and culture. Scott’s menu is “globally influenced yet locally created,” with a process that uses fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. The Hungry Kat was invited last June 4, 2019 to the exclusive media launch of Scott’s in Ascott BGC and it was a good opportunity to finally visit this luxurious five-star property.
The party started on the fifth floor reception area beside the grand ballroom where guests were first treated to overflowing cocktails, sparkling rosé wine, and a welcoming committee of jugglers and circus entertainers.
The Ascott Limited is a Singapore company that has grown to be one of the leading international lodging owner-operators in the world. Ascott’s portfolio spans more than 170 cities across over 30 countries. There are currently two Ascott-branded properties in Manila, the first being Ascott Makati in Glorietta which opened in 2000 and the second, Ascott BGC which opened in late 2014.
Guests were then escorted to Scott’s on the second floor where an exquisite dinner reception was elegantly set up. This location was formerly occupied by Alta by Chef Margarita Forés but Ascott BGC has now put up their own dining establishment. Scott’s offers casual all-day dining in a contemporary setting which creates a sense of serenity within the lively BGC community. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows give a majestic peek into the busy streets below. A private room is also available for special occasions and celebrations.
The name Scott’s was inspired by Asia Pacific’s first international serviced residence opened by Scotts Holdings - a renowned Singapore corporation. This property was situated on Scotts Road in the Central Area of Singapore which was an upscale residential area until 1984.
The buffet tables were filled with some of the local and international dishes offered at Scott’s. Start with a Salad Bowl or some Penne Pasta with grilled shrimp.
A lovely Cheese Table was on display featuring a variety of cheeses like brie, edam, Emmental cheese, herb crusted cream cheese, pepper crusted cream cheese, and more. These were accompanied by a selection of imported hams and fresh fruits served on the long dining tables.
The Fine de Claire Oyster Gratin with Miso is one of the finest and most exquisite items you can start dinner with. These oysters are imported all the way from the largest oyster-producing region in France and they are known for their delicate flesh. Having them baked with cheese is an even added bonus.
A live taco station lets diners choose their own toppings to go into their freshly-prepared Mexican Tacos. But for those on a diet, they also offer a Keto Taco Salad which comes with all the proteins and vegetables but without the taco shells.
Some Filipino appetizers were also available like the Sinuglaw, a vinegar-based dish composed of grilled pork belly and fish ceviche that is popular in Visayas and Mindanao.
Scott’s takes pride it its authentic Singaporean dishes. One of their specialties is the Prawn Laksa which is one of the best versions you can find in the city. The laksa broth is extremely rich and creamy, with flavors oozing from every sip. I highly recommend trying this when you visit Scott’s.
Another Singaporean classic is the Hainanese Chicken. This set comes with fragrant chicken rice and a bowl of soup. You also have three dipping sauces to customize your meal, just like how they do it in Singapore.
The highlight that evening would be the Pork Belly Confit with Crispy Skin and torched caramel crust. This lechon kawali is a superior version of the popular Filipino dish, especially with its caramelized and very crispy skin.
Other dishes that were featured included the Tamarind Chili Glazed Salmon Fillet with garlic bok choy, and the Beef Short Rib Bulalo with organic coco balsamic roasted vegetables.
Scott’s also offers the Cast Iron Flank Steak for those special and romantic occasions. The guests truly enjoyed all the wonderful dishes that were served at the grand launch, but there’s even more desserts on the next room.
The dessert table featured a colorful display of sweets and pastries that kids and adults alike would love.
There were brownies, marshmallows, cheesecake bars, cupcakes, cream puffs, macarons, and more. They even had this beautiful Strawberry Shortcake which is also available on the menu.
Scott’s in Ascott BGC is a new refreshing dining option for those living or working in Bonifacio Global City. It’s just a few steps away from Bonifacio High Street, the Philippine Stock Exchange Tower, and other office buildings, so I’m sure there will be plenty of hungry foodies waiting to explore its diverse culinary offerings. Congratulation to Ascott BGC for a successful grand launch!
