News has been released that, Scott Thorson; the ex-boyfriend of Liberace has died aged 65 from cancer. Thorson released a memoir about his time with Liberace in 1988 and a movie was made Behind the Candelabra (2013) starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.
Thorson was 18 when he met Liberace in Las Vegas, Liberace taken with Thorson hired him as his friend and companion. Liberace who was 48 years older than he, had Thorson living inside his home and incorporated him into his stage performances. Thorson lived a life of luxury; however, it was Liberace who got him involved in drugs which was an addiction he never gave up. Liberace lost interest in Thorson, became interested in younger men and got tired of Thorson spending all his money on drugs.
Liberace kicked him out and Thorson was left with little, Thorson filed a lawsuit which was settled out of court. Liberace died in 1987, from AIDS.
Thorson spent the rest of his life with a drug addiction and living a life of petty crime. He was constantly wanting money for drugs and turned to theft – including stealing victims credit cards. This resulted in him spending time behind bars.
In 2012, he was diagnosed with hepatitis C, and with stage II cancer. Thorson continued his life of drugs and crime and was sentenced to prison. Thorson died of cancer and heart disease at a facility in 2024.
