Hi there! Love this blog. I'm a post-undergrad dancer living/working in Minneapolis, and would love to come to Philadelphia this summer to check out Temple / learn more about the community. I'm very much thinking of pursuing a masters at the university in the future. Are there any workshops going on through the university / in the city that you could recommend? Thanks! -- Scott
I hope you don’t mind my posting this publicly, because it’s a great question and the answers have some good resources
Gah - sorry for the ridiculous delay! Thanks for the compliment :) I hope you still love our blog after we accidentally ignored your question for months! Philly has an amazing dance community AND is only 90 mins from NYC and 2.5 hours from DC. Check out PhiladelphiaDance.org for starters. Two faculty members who frequently have workshops are Kariamu Welsh (a very special kind of Afro-contemporary, usually at the Painted Bride Art Center), and Kun-Yang Lin of Kun-Yang Lin Dancers. The Annenberg also brings in a lot of master classes through it’s Dance Celebration series (run by an alumna of ours who also has her own company). Some of those are on our campus, but we have lots of other guest artist master classes as well. I’d also be more than happy to arrange a class visit in our department. I also just put our speaker series schedule on the Boyer College Website. Just shoot us an email at [email protected]. We just can’t offer class visits during finals/breaks.
Hope to see you!
