thg danny things incoming, sorry not sorry, a bit of brainrot

his foster sister was named emmeline, he called her emma. emmy to annoy her. she was younger than him, but not by much. they ended up in the reaping together (intentionally) because danny had tried to run away the year prior and got caught and thrown back into the district. no fuss was made about two kids from the same family being pulled for the same year bc technically, they weren't. emma was part of a foster family danny ended up in early on and he got shuffled around from that point, but always considered her his sister regardless of where they ended up.

she wasn't what i would call bleeding heart, but she definitely was more open and friendly, especially in comparison to danny. bossy. very loud presence. fun. a good person. a little bit like a chihuahua when it comes to barking up a storm, but then would get scared if someone stepped up.

she died during the games. he tried to save her and couldn't.

the capitol fully expected / wanted danny to die, he won instead.

still thinking about danny having a civil conversation with gortash and making an oath with him ( that he doesn't feel good about despite being comfy playing in the murky grey areas of morality / knows no one feels good about but it helps them navigate the city while they're there ) and it being an agreement btwn two lying liars who lie.

but also thinking about him giving food to the lil girl in town who lost her mama and giving gold to the guy who wanted to leave with his wife but didn't have funds despite the whole dream visitor betrayal putting him on edge and also thinking about the way that the wounded traveler had been orin shapeshifting, but had it not been, he offered to stay with a dying man until he passed so he wasn't alone. i care him and his growth. also thinking about how he's carrying clown body parts bc he's the carrier of icky gross things ( unless he's dead ) asfakjsdf and also how he genuinely made an offering to selune even tho he didn't get a blessing out of it ( he more did it as gratitude for how her daughter blessed leland ) and then laughing thinking about how he picked a lock as a devil's trap dropped fireballs down on him and conceptually it's just really hilarious even if narratively how do you explain that LOL

hahaha haaaaaaaaa. not to ramble on main about danny gaines but like yeh. the bg3 brainrot has been so so so so so real, but this is sort of a universal danny truth. danny was younger than eight when his mom left, but yk still. and she DID love him! it's just she also would've done ^ out of what she thought was love and toughening him up and she was so flighty and didn't wanna feel guilty about the choices she had to make. but anyway, little boy with a big soft heart who wants to love and be loved and is taught / told / forced very early on to be scared of love ( any sort of love ) for a multitude of reasons. told you don't need to say things like this every day. told to man up. when his softness was met with violence to eradicate it from him and when he had to kill it himself and become so guarded and walled off. like loving people just means pain or really horrible things. loving people means they could leave and everyone leaves him! so whenever i sit and really take all this in and think about how he is with the friends, it makes me ouuuugh.

i'm giving myself whiplash bc i was thinking about space meowmeow, but then i got gut punched thinking about the friends on their bg3 adventure. not to lotr nerd quote but i was thinking about how they're similar to the lotr homies in the ragtag misfits come together to form a bond of love and friendship that not even magic can fuck with and just...

imma just cryyyyy. these babies just getting kidnapped and given tadpoles and sent on a journey of traumas.

i will forever love danny being the squishiest and should therefore be understandably afraid of being in combat but with the life he's led, things like dying to a sword / magic don't scare him like they should. like in regular verse stuff, even afraid, he's usually good about keeping his cool and staying logical. bc what scares him is the softer stuff. the letting people in and being vulnerable stuff. the learning to let down his guard and forgo the things he's learned to survive in order to see beyond the Self. the ... these people that i love could be ripped from me and i could lose everything and it's harder to go back to losing everything when you had everything than it is to never have it at all. like he can't go back there? it would destroy him. anyway, he would die for his friends. <3

imagining danny interacting with kiddos in diff places the gang goes through and if they're there long enough, catch him giving like a lil fighting lesson to a small group of them that are drawn to him bc for all his antisocialness and his gruffness, he's really good with kids 😭

like i was thinking about the tiefling kid that told him he was afraid and how if they had time - which they didnt which also added to the fucking with his head of all those incidents that day- danny would've sat with him and told him about the brave people that are his friends who do stuff when they're afraid bc being brave comes in a lot of different forms. or the kid that told him he hated him bc they killed the goblins so how can they learn to protect themselves now... he would've given em a lil lesson on how to be sneaky so you have a chance of not getting hurt but also how to hurt someone when needed.

just lil thoughts about mister don't talk to me i won't give the time of day to the npc adults in our camp bc my important ppl slots are filled by my friends but i can make time for kids ):

thinking about how rough tonight was all around in bg3 😭 thinking about... danny carrying a dead tiefling child and no one wants to claim this poor baby or even mentions it ): and thankfully we don't have to endure the whole grove hating us bc body dropped off incident in game, but i think about the having to narratively do something with the body. and then i think about mayrina selling her unborn kid into a deal with a hag and i think of danny's mother giving him away to people so he could be raised without love / without a home and becoming a criminal assassin and mayrina was here saying all this shit about how the kid was gonna have a good life with this horrible person and just!! yk!!! it's Fine!!!

also the whole trying to save people and it doesn't matter sometimes or doesn't work or you accidentally kill people while you try save them and some the only way to save is to let them pass in peace ( the headless woman that succumbs to death ) that the whole gang witnessed / experienced. 😭

i was thinking about how often and how well danny lies / uses deception and how it's not even something difficult for him to do or think twice about and also the whole yk... getting into people's minds shit. but all of this is to say that he doesn't even consider doing any of that to his friends. like it's kinda like how in regular verse, he's v honest, even brutally so sometimes, with the people he cares about. so take that and make it fantasy. he wouldn't use deception on them and he also wouldn't do any digging into their minds via tadpole powers or not either. when he's a criminal rogue but even he has standards and boundaries he won't cross when it comes to those he cares about (: also he's just a guy / just a rogue, but he will Step Up against someone who gets in their faces and yk he plays fast and loose with grey morals. fuck around with his friends and find out beat >(

me jumping in with superhero talk too: i like thinking about superhero danny with all the offense / in the fray shit and he's actually bad at thinking defense bc he's always sorta on the offense. scrappy too ofc. thinking about him kinda lurking the city underbelly in fight rings and in bad crowds. like v much street kid vibes. until he's taken in by these ppl to claim to care about him but don't and just wanna harness what ability he's capable of. i don't think he'd call himself any sort of name or go by any sort of cool superhero name but i do think he'd get called things by these ppl and by ppl later when he's in his anti-hero bag bc his friends.

always fond of crow / raven imagery for him tho. big lonely birds with bad reps and kind of harbingers of death vibes. still trying to think of something marvelesque that could be fitting for what he could do but i do think he'd be the sort to be able to kinda macgyver / rig up things to accentuate/help his friends. something something tamper ability but in this sense where it would be like making an armpiece to help someone harness power better or yk things of that nature. meanwhile his own is kinda chaotic and tethered undoubtedly to his anger.
