The Scowles and Ancient Woodland of Puzzlewood, Coleford, Forest of Dean, England.

It seems that this location has always been considered special; the Romans hoarded 3000 coins in the rocks and subsequent communities mined the site. More recently the spot has been used for television and film including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Dr. Who and Merlin. It was visited and a source of inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien for his works.

Of the list of things I'll miss; the ancient forests of home.

My friend Vince recently moved to Australia. He moved there to go to Grad school and it's been one of his goals since I met him or it seemed like it (seriously, all he would talk about is Australia).

Before he moved Vince and I would go to shows together, spot each other coffees, and smoke cigarettes together (he basically taught me how to roll them). Every time he would text me with news for a show, he always offered to pay the cover or pay for my drinks or both. He was, and is, still too nice to me.

If I tried to decline going to a show he would sometimes say, "Don't you want to be there when it all happened man?! People will write books about this show and you'll get to be there!" I'd laugh it off, but he was right. I did want to be a part of it and to a certain extent he allowed me to be.

Every time we reached the venue, the amount of people that he personally knew (in the band or connected to the band) would surprise me. He let me into that world and I got to look behind the curtain -- even if the curtain was beer-soaked and smelled like cigarettes.

When I first started playing music, he was one of the first people who pushed me to keep doing it. He even helped my band, LHND, by recording our first EP. He also recorded about half of the There Is No Escape songs on my bandcamp. We played music together officially and unofficially as Autumn and Maggie -- we played one open mic, I was drunk, and forgot all the words... it was also his birthday.

To this day, I'm still no musician. I pluck around on guitar and whine and cry but it's fun. Vince on the other hand, carefully crafts the lyrics to his songs. Some of them exemplify the feeling of longing while still being hopeful. Others are not to be taken lightly and carry the weight of a person who has been around longer than the singer himself.

If you can't tell, I am a fan. I have been, even before we were formally introduced.

Before I start making myself cry, I miss him. Our spontaneous hangouts at Dunkin Donuts, watching terrible, terrible movies with pizza, and going to shows. I miss experiencing music with him now that I'm experiencing it alone. But I know, that every show I go to he'll be the ghost on my shoulder. And every show he goes to on the other side of the world, I'll be the one on his.

Here's to you, buddy. Have a drink, have a laugh. I covered these songs because I am sappy and I miss you, and they are my favorite.

Enjoy your new home, I'll be heading back to despair.

"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" - Talking Heads cover.

Happy Easter everyone. I decided to cover this which is probably one of my favorite Talking Heads songs. Looking into it, this would be a perfect song for the loop pedal as it's the same riff played over and over again. If you ever get the chance check out the Talking Heads concert movie "Stop Making Sense".

After unearthing through my hard drive, I've discovered this little gem. It's called "Train Rides Home After Good Shows in the City" and i think it was literally the second song I recorded on my Macbook.
