There’s a flash of mystical energy in front of each elite student of the Dominus Academy. The magic produces a letter with the familiar symbol of Dean Dana Mortcombe in the center, and a small sense of dread follows. Each of you understand that what’s inside is a task to be executed to perfection, and for a moment you might consider not opening it at all, before magically does it for you. The content is hypnotic and you can’t look away. It reads:
Elite of Dominus Academy,
As you may have noticed, the school year has been off to a rather slow start, though that is not anyone’s fault but our own. We’ve been hard at work developing a new regimen for you all to help you rise above even further than you already are. Believe me when I say that we are proud of all that you have accomplished in your time here. But we know that you can surpass the limitations you’ve place upon yourselves.
To put the finishing touches on this new regimen, many of us who’ve taken it upon ourselves to train you need to travel away from the Academy for a weekend. Unfortunately, though, this week we did catch a human straggler in Maumont Grove as we do from time to time. Usually, we are able to wipe their memories and send them on their way. However, it seems this person is actually a repeat intruder and this time they were spelled with some sort of protections against memory-wiping. Of course, this is very concerning to us.
As you are all the best of the best, we are entrusting you to keep an eye on this character. However, if you’re feeling inspired and ambitious, we challenge you to find out what information you can about the charms and protections cast upon them.
Dean Dana Mortcombe
Two details on the letter jump out; one, the Shadow Coven will be free of the faculty for the weekend, and they can use that freedom however they want. And two, Dean Mortcombe is trusting you to take care of an intruder. With all things related to the faculty, the real reason behind that task is shrouded in intrigue and doubt — why can’t powerful witches like their professors handle this person on their own? Surely they’re more than capable of solving this mystery in a fraction of time the Elite students would. Maybe it’s a test? Either way, maybe the Coven having a say on what happens with the intruder might be for the best. Nobody needs more blood in their hands.
With the task given, you players are free to decide what to do with it. You can follow the orders given by the faculty, or you can simply ignore it and use the freedom the characters have to make a move against Dean Mortcombe. ...Or just party their brains out. Make full use of the forms of interactions available to you and discuss what is the Coven’s next move. Just remember one thing: whatever happens, there will be consequences.
