Putting aside everything else that makes Hadestown an absolute masterpiece, please consider the sheer power of a leading duet that’s a high tenor and an alto?? My altp belter heart is breaking??? In a really good way!! There’s something so compelling about Orpheus singing these sweeping, airy high notes and Eurydice singing in lower, jazzier tones. I think it says a lot about their respective characters and honestly? Other composers could take a cue. Please write something other than scream-belting soprano leads. I’m tired.
