Came back to my thoughts about Draag and culture under totalitarian regimes. Mostly cause I’ve been thinking about the young Marianne I invented but shit man… I forgot how much targeting these sort of regimes do towards children.
Thinking about pro-Draag children’s cartoons. Government sponsored youth groups. Perfectly tailored school curriculums. Books and movies made to teach their beliefs.
It all makes me wonder where The Black Parade (as in the band MCR are playing as) fits into all of this. Tour promo videos seem to suggest that they are from Draag. They existed as a band prior to MOAT, and are now being brought back. But what did they serve in the overall culture of Draag? Were they a counterculture band that got too big for their liking? Why is Draag bringing them back instead of allowing them to languish in MOAT forever? Is this a bread and circuses thing? One can presume, if the story of The Black Parade (the album) also takes place in Draag, that they have been at war, and though whatever war The Patient was in may have ended, another could always be happening. Is this something the regime wants to distract from? Are they trying to condition The Black Parade into being a band that is more pro-Draag in the process?
I just think there’s got to be something there about being this band and playing the songs they play, whilst being in a culture where media is highly controlled by the government.
