Sorry, screaming lessons
Oh YEAH Actually. I've just caught up with it. I'm honestly a big fan and I've got it book marked up. It's not every day I dig up a long horror anthology with unique premises, unafraid to murder children, and hit you in the face with gore like that.
My personal favorite so far with like the most impact that was like a fucking SLAP to my face especially because I was reading in Public was 'Requirements of a Belle.'
You can't tell me this hitting you out of nowhere in a Shojo manga wouldn't be like a bullet between the eyes.
As well as 'The Land of Mermaids'
It has surprising impact-most of the stories centered around highschool or middle school aged girls with a surprising lack of sex makes for an impactful horror-from themes about internet safety, kidnapping, bullying, and often centered around the concepts of dating and self image/vanity. It's almost refreshing; to see true terror without seeing a sexualized teen. The Art is still very Shojo and cutsey-but the arrows I'm taking left and right from it with these horrifying design moments is amazing. I've been jaded before by Shojo (I lost 3 days of my life reading Peach Girl and I was so pissed with the genre that I forsook it for years.) but this gives me hope back into the Genre.

What makes a good horror host?
EC’s Ghoulunatics? Good horror hosts.
TV Cryptkeeper? A worthy successor.
Uncle Creepy? Good horror host.
Henry Rollins? Good horror host.
The ghost of half a Japanese schoolgirl who for some reason I always picture with a French accent? Good horror host.
Hammy funeral home director who’s actually the Devil? Good horror host.
A guy with a bowl of rice for a head? Not a good horror host.
And yes, I know where it comes from, that it’s a Japanese funeral custom where you put out a bowl of rice with chopsticks in it for the spirits.
That does not change the fact that it’s a guy with a goddamn bowl of rice for a head.
This manga is p cool!
