At the end of last year I licensed some of my Fatework  music to Microsoft, and recently the music has appeared in a new roller-coaster destruction Xbox game called Screamride. Pretty stoked about this!

ScreamRide Xbox One Review

Screamride for Xbox One is a construction simulator and puzzle game. The year is 2050 where a company called Screamworks employs thrill seekers to experience a variety of extreme roller coasters and rides for science and somehow the future of humanity

Screamride has 3 game modes Engineer, ScreamRider and Demolition Expert and all three combine has more than 50 levels for you to take on. ScreamRider mode will be the first mode you take on, whereby you take control of a coaster guiding it through a track trying to accomplish certain goals. You can accelerate, brake, use turbo and lean the coaster. Keeping the riders and coaster from going off the track is you major goal but there are a lot of other things to perform like lean the coaster on two wheels for a certain time or gaining turbo in certain ways. This mode if quite fun but can become a little repetitive as a lot of the goals you will not be able to perform in one go.

Next up is the Demolition Expert mode, here you will get cabins filled with thrill seekers launching them to cause massive destructions on environments. You also get a few goals here to complete and some of them will also not be able to be completed in one go. This mode is more fun to me than the ScreamRider as it varies more in what you need to do and what the environments look like.

The last mode is Engineer where you have to put your skills of building to the test to finish construction on a roller coaster track. This is quite fun and you also get goals that needs to be fulfilled by testing the track after building but the actual building can become a pain. You turn and elevate the track piece with the left analogue stick and twist it with the triggers this can become quite confusing as you have to continuously move the camera to see the proper directions. I understand where they where going with this making the building more fluid but something is just not gelling.

The graphics looks good and the setting of the story is funny but it seems like they are pushing the “cheesy” funny a bit far and repeating the same cinematics over and over will make it dull for anyone. The game is a lot of fun for about two hours or so but after that there is nothing drawing me back to complete the game. There is a sandbox mode where you can build your own complete levels and also share them with the community so it is a great online feature and will interest a lot of players to go and play other people’s levels and share their own.

So maybe this game is not just for me as it did keep my attention for long but they have a great concept here and maybe working on it will make for a great future game to be released.
