Research Summary
editing a sequence in the library - I soon realized that I would not able to put the footage together in the way that I envisioned it to be without physically handling it. I feel this has something to do with more photographically minded brain. I edited the footage much like I would put together a Book. after I had laid it all out I then stuck it all in my sketch pad and used this as the guidelines while piecing it together on premier pro.
5IMAG003W.2 Wall, Page and Screen: Screen 1 - Presentation Considerations
Having now completed the final cut of my short film, Cheaper near the RIver Lea (2017) I have given my idealised presentation some further consideration. Though intended as a fixed - length short film, I feel that its form - short, intersecting clips of seemingly randomised video with fixed length intervals between them would therefore suit a looped playback. This looped playback would therefore require less of a continued gaze, and would allow viewers to enter and leave as they wish throughout playback. I hope this would encourage the viewer to form differing interpretations of the video, particularly given the unclear beginning and end. It would also provide some differing of the time spent viewing each clip at the start/end of their viewing, and as such encourage reviewing once discussed with friends etc. To allow this continued playback viewing, in an idealised situation I would like it to be projected, large, onto a wall in the darkened corner of a gallery space; as it has no playback audio, there will be no interference to other artworks. It would be preferable to allow it to playback towards one side of the gallery, allowing visitors to come and go as they please, or be drawn over to it having noticed it whilst visiting for a group show.
KAYA SCREEN 1 SUBMISSION
The video is too big to post originally to Tumblr, so I have uploaded to Vimeo and sent a link.
PROJECT EVALUATION.
Rough storyboard plan for second shoot. (excuse drawing)
This video by Joey Bada$$ called Land Of The Free holds a strong political message. The video discusses and illustrates the racism and discrimination in America today not just by police brutality but the negative impact Donald Trump has also had. Im going to use a section from this video where there is a row of black people lined up in chains and facing opposite is a line of white men in officer style uniforms with rifles point at them. It is powerful imagery touching on the social and cultural issues that are discussed within music? It’s the exact way I am trying to illustrate my project. Whether there are positive or negative aspects of music culture, there are still a lot of social and political issues discussed within the medium. This artists album is actually called “ALL AMERIKKKAN BADA$$. The way he has spelt america is perfect in illustrating all the messages within his music. It also made me want to title this section of my video AMERIKKKA. I then had the idea to name the other sections exactly what they are. So the title for my video is “SEX. GRIME. AMERIKKKA.”
