Screwloose Studios is now LIVE! More than just a portfolio site, this is a sort of "home base" for all of my creative work and I hope you'll take a look around.

But why visit a website just to see stuff I've already posted elsewhere? BECAUSE, for the time being Screwloose Studios is the only place you can find CATCHER MALL, the never-ending monster project I've been working on for the best part of three years!

Finally, I am by no means a web designer so some parts are uglier than others, but I intend to keep updating it further and if you stumble across a spelling mistake or a button that doesn't work etc, please do let me know!

JOBSWURTH

A pedantic chimera traffic warden who revels in the chance to "write you up" for any tiny infraction. Unlike traditional chimeras he has two lion heads because he is, of course, the "Double Yellow Lion."

New decade, new Mascot! I feel like the one on the right would make a nice little statuette; Perhaps I’ll look to commission one...!

Hey hey! Here's one hot off the presses! Conceived and designed only two days ago and what might be the final piece of the NPC puzzle.

I've spoken in the past about three counterpart areas - The tropics, the arctic and the desert.

They all have a native enemy type (Hockenblok, Fishflinger, Pteroflap) They all have a "natural" boss monster (Abominature, Crabsolute Zero, Stratasfiend)

And I wanted them all to have a local NPC: Quack van Honk, Tuyu and now Neferendi (am I going to stick with that name? Not sure yet.) Naturally, she is a sphinx and naturally she will ask you some questions that need to be answered before you can progress. But she isn't asking them because of some sort of divine purpose, she just needs help for her crossword puzzle.

I'm very pleased with how this design came together. I wanted a long, weird neck inspired by some of the old Greek sphinx statues but didn't want a traditional Egyptian headdress and I think this has enough basic sphinx elements but enough unique elements to be successful!

A basic idea of the layout of Dice City. It's not the only location in the game, it's not even the only city, but it is an important one.

I've got a handful more of these that are unfinished so don't expect one a day! I'm wondering if I should have just used a more naturalistic colour palette for the background...At least I have the option to go back and change it if I want.

MASCOT VS FOREMAN FRIGG

As I was still eager to draw the Mascot cast but didn't have any new characters to do, it was time for me to start drawing them doing things. Not a particular strong suit of mine but they turned out quite nicely and even generated some new character interplay! The biggest problem is that I drew the characters without a specific background in mind, so that had to be done later and I think it's safe to say that's the weakest part of the image. Nevertheless, I had to start with the main rivalry, and wanted to show Foreman Frigg actually using his club. His fight club.
