as i have mentioned in my introductory post, i want to help those few people who want to learn Filipino. with the scarcity of resources to study Filipino from, it must be very difficult for yāall! ;(( so here you guys go, the first lesson of Filipino With Dei!! (for learning purposes, but ofc u can never not have a few laughs when it comes to filipinos so) Ā ā¼
1. O, talaga?Ā =Ā Oh, really?Ā
Ā Ā Ā + can be used for response to declarative sentences, using a relaxed tone ,Ā but you can prolongĀ āgaā and go a few notes higher onĀ āgaāĀ for moreĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā emotion.
Ā Ā Ā Ā āSis, tingin ka sa kaliwa, may pogi.āĀ =Ā Ā āSis, look to the left, thereās a hottie.
Ā Ā Ā Ā āO, talagaaAAAAaA?? Saan banda bes, di ko makita!!āĀ =Ā Ā āOh (sHIIIT),Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā reALLY?? Over where bes, I canāt see him!
2. Weh, di siguro!Ā =Ā For real? I donāt think so! / That canāt be!Ā
Ā Ā Ā + this response is used when expressing disbelief.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā āTol, sinagot na nya ako!āĀ =Ā āBro, she finally said yes to me!āĀ
Ā Ā Ā Ā āWeh, di siguro!āĀ =Ā āFor real? [I donāt think so!] Stop lying, you jackass!āĀ
3. Ah, ganun ba?Ā =Ā Ah, is that how it is? / Is that so?Ā
Ā Ā Ā + used when youāve been told something new, a fact you didnāt know; much likeĀ āćććā in Japanese.
4. Sigurado ka?Ā =Ā You sure?Ā
5. Totoo nga!Ā =Ā Ā Itās true! / Iām being honest! / Iām not kidding!Ā
Ā Ā Ā + when youāre teased for saying something unbelievable to the listener and you want to prove yourself.
Ā Ā Ā Ā āSa wakas, di ako bumagsak!āĀ =Ā Ā āFinally, I didnāt fail!āĀ
Ā Ā Ā Ā āIkaw, pumasa? Himala!āĀ =Ā Ā āYou passed? A miracle!āĀ
Ā Ā Ā Ā āTotoo nga! Bagsak ka lang eh!!āĀ =Ā Ā āItās true! Stop teasing me justĀ ācos youĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā failed!!āĀ
6. Sige, titignan ko.Ā =Ā Alright, Iāll think about it.Ā
Ā Ā Ā + althoughĀ ātignanā means to look, it means to think about in this context.Ā
7. Sayang.Ā =Ā What a waste. / That was almost.Ā
Ā Ā Ā + one of my favorite words in Filipino. can be used when expressing guilt/regret over wasting something (e.g. food, water). But thereās no English word that can give justice to the regret and sadness expressed in this word when used for expressing regret when you almost did/had someone/something.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā āPre, bakit mo kasi siya pinakawalan?āĀ =Ā Ā āBro, whyĀ did you even let herĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā go?āĀ
Ā Ā Ā āEwan ko, tanga tanga ko talaga. Sayang pre,Ā handa ko na nga syangĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā pakasalan.āĀ =Ā āI donāt know, Iām really so fucking stupid. I almost did it,Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā bro, I was ready to marry her.ā
8. Ayaw ko / Ayoko / Ayoko nga!Ā =Ā I donāt want to! / No! / I said, no!Ā
9. Sige, g!Ā =Ā Alright, Iām in!Ā
Ā Ā Ā + used when expressing willingness to join something or do something. Not to sure but I thinkĀ āgā was derived fromĀ āgameā. So just like how you say in English,Ā āSure, Iām gameā, when agreeing to do a certain activity.Ā
10. Maya-maya na lang. =Ā Maybe later, alright?Ā
Ā Ā Ā + used when telling someone youāll do something later.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā āKailan ka maliligo?āĀ =Ā Ā āWhen are you going to take a bath?āĀ
Ā Ā Ā Ā āMaya-maya na lang. Mauna ka na.āĀ =Ā Ā āA little bit later, you go in first.
alright, thatās all I can give now. if you have questions or clarifications, comment away! to my fellow kabayans, kung may mas mabuting translation kayo or may nakita kayong mali, pakisabi na lang din ;)) reblog to spread the word on how much of a beautiful and interesting language Filipino is!Ā
