The darkness switched to blinding light, the stuffiness replaced with freezing cold air, the stench still there. Dare tumbled out of the bag and wheezed, coughing and spluttering in the soft bed of the motel, quickly moving away as more clothes fell near her.
She glared up at Quickster, a Giant-class, who simply grinned at her as he began organizing his clothes.
“I washed them before coming here.”
“The stuffiness is- is just- what the fuck, Quick?”
Quickster laughed, tossing his bag into the corner of the room.
“Next time, we do things my way,” Dare huffed, almost flinching at the quirked-brow glare that came from the much, much taller man.
“Say that again?”
“Fuck you, man. Shouldn’t we be focusing on-” Dare was on her feet quickly and barely dodged the large hand that shot right towards her.
She fell from the large bed with a rather loud thump, ignoring the blossoming pain on her side before she stepped back, whereas Quickster was taking small steps forward. One step of his covered twenty of hers.
“You’re the wanted one here,” Quickster growled, his lips turned back to reveal his teeth - not quite fanged, but his jaw could crush, and the corners of his mouth upturned into an almost intimidating smirk - “Need I remind you that I can grab you and take you to the police right now?”
Dare snarled and snapped her teeth, dodging Quickster’s foot, then his other, until she was cornered against the wall.
“You need me, don’t you! You got yourself into this mess! You need me, you wouldn’t take me there!”
“I can just ask Databyte-”
“Databyte’s gone!”
“What makes you think you can do it?”
“Give me a chance, Quick! Please.” Dare’s voice cracked, and she bit her lip, trying to steady herself. She was confident in her abilities. But this time, it meant freedom for both of them. She walks away free, he walks away with his record clean.
“Hey. Kid? Kid. I know we’re on the wrong foot, but don’t- Hey, hey! Ugh, why are you such a baby!”
Maybe because I was born three months ago, Dare thought bitterly.
“Says the guy who was begging on his knees just a week ago!”
“You know everybody-”
“So why couldn’t we go to my side of town?”
“I thought you knew someone else!”
“Quick!”
“Not some crazy criminal bi-”
“Like you’re any different!”
They both stopped and took a deep breath, Quickster trying not to squish the girl and Dare trying to keep herself from biting his tendons.
“Listen,” Quickster sighed. “It’s been a day. We deserve a break. Finish fighting tomorrow?”
Dare paused, then looked away for a moment. She didn’t say anything, but did give a nod.
“Good. Now take a shower, you reek.”
“Hey!”
