Get Yourself Together - Randomer - Scruff Box / Get Yourself Together (2012, Hemlock)
North London newcomer Randomer recently dropped his strongest single yet, on the always-quality Hemlock label. The single's AA, Get Yourself Together, combines a 70s horror movie ambiance with off-kilter, heavy-duty techno beats, to form a deliciously dark dance-floor monster. Check it out above, or head over to Boomkat to obtain the full single.
Randomer - Scruff Box / Get Yourself Together
One of my favourite producers - Randomer, has a record out today on one of my favourite labels - Hemlock Recordings.
I've been a fan of Randomer since I first heard the hybrid 140bpm madness of Scapegoat, which was an unusual release for Hospital Records sub-label Med School, slightly better known as an outlet for deeper, more experimental drum & bass. At the time I thought Med School had a good idea going on with signing slower tempo bass music, but since then it's output hasn't turned out to be as innovative as I had envisaged, but that's me digressing, right there.
Since then Randomer has had success most notably with underground giants Numbers and Hessle Audio, deploying fresh new ideas and dynamic flavours, usually heavily leaning on unique percussive workouts. However my favourite has to be his Fat! Records collaboration with Fife on Too Many Times. This is a record I have not stopped playing since I bought it, and in my opinion is a masterpiece of dance music. Have a listen:
Hemlock have released possibly his most gritty roller to date, Scruff Box, overflowing with distorted tom toms and a growling, undulating bass lick. The squeezed vocals and guitars stabs for some reason faintly remind of Jason Nevins' remix of It's Like That, but with all it's bits crushed up.
The B-side Get Yourself Together seems to have been sieved through the same grit box, but is somehow closer in style to his trademark percussion workouts of previous releases. On top of this, some cool edits and some roughed up squeaks and bleeps keep things flowing nicely.

Randomer - Scruff Box
Already sounds like a classic. Forthcoming via Hemlock on 20th February.
news: preview randomer's new hemlock release
words: belcher
Following his bass heavy techno banger "Real Talk" which marked the 20th release on Glasgow imprint Numbers, London-based producer Randomer (aka Rohan Walder) is set to drop his next single on Untold's label Hemlock. Read on for a preview and more info after the jump.
The last two releases on the label remain steadfast in my top tunes of 2011 (Guy Andrews, Shades/Textures; Pangaea, Hex/Fatalist) - and no doubt Randomer's new 12" single, "Scruff Box"/"Get Yourself Together", which sees Walder stripping back his sound to essential garage beats accompanied with a good dose of bass, won't fail to impress.
Here's a clip of "Scruff Box", which drops on the 20th February.
