this was all your fault you know, if you just cooperated, we wouldn’t have to pester you, we wouldn’t have to pester them. It’s your own fault you’ve become miserable.

I mean, it’s not like you could tell anyone about us anymore, we’re the only trustworthy beings around you. Your ‘friends’ don’t care about you, Witch. If they did, don’t you think the butterfly princess would come to you in person? Don’t you think your… lover would come? If they cared about you, surely they’d come to check on you. I mean, the goblin didn’t even write back, the sun princess… well, at least she wrote back, that’s the bare minimum, but she hasn’t come to see you, and you know for a fact she was lying about “caring” for you more than you know. As for the sheriff… his ‘solution’ was… lacklustre at best, you must know, deep down, Witch, that he just wanted you out of his empire.

It’s sad really, you devote yourself to helping these people, these “friends” and yet when you “need help” they can’t even be bothered to check on you…

We’d be a lot more caring, Witch.

The Undying and Everliving

One could relate Shelby to a phoenix, after all she was reborn into what she saw as something better. One could replace that disgusting sculk with the bright feathers of a phoenix, turn her into someone honorable, but that isn't Shelby, is it?

Shelby's rebirth never came at the price of her own life, she took a life from another and for that her rebirth was much more sickly, much more unlively. She took the cowards way out and run until she couldn't see the light anymore, and as she ran, digging a deeper grave for herself, the sweet great witch went farther from the path of good.

From helping to haunting, from kind to vengeful, she found people that spoke fluently in such darkness and pulled her in further. People who masked as people more trustworthy, pulled at her rage, and allowed her to get some of her vengeance.

And throughout this she felt good in those moments, and yet after it all caught up. Somehow the joy grew thinner and thinner as the guilt swallowed her whole dragging her to the path more confusing than dark and light. As she advanced the path looking for guidance she found it, I suppose. Although those drowning in darkness don't tend to help those looking for the light.

And in the end she did it, she found her place, not among the lights and flame of the undying phoenix, but rather among the darkness and decay of the everliving sculk.
