Some of these projects take a while, and a lot of that is on me. I love to see how I can work in even the tiny details on things most wouldn't see. I love detailed work. Especially when you look at someone's work and notice something new that your eye missed at first glance. Maybe less is more. But honestly, these things are about taking the stuff from my brain that keeps me up in the silent hours of the night and spilling it into form. On the other end, I love the Apoxie Sculpt. Before I went to bed last night, the sculpted worms were hard as a rock. It says 24 hours to cure, but they were solid about six hours after form. No shrinkage, they didn't lose shape, and the details remained. About halfway through the curing stage, I soften the top layer with water and use a sculpting tool to smooth out the pie layer. If you do it too early, the surface won't be hard enough, and too late, the texture becomes fibrous. Billions of Brood X Cicadas are set to emerge in the spring of 2021 after 17 years underground. The Brood X is among the geographically largest of all 17-year periodical Cicadas. Today is finishing the diorama base and setting up the placement of the sculptures. I still need to distress the floor and prime them up for painting. I learned a lot of new tricks and techniques while doing this project. Some were mistakes, and others were lucky accidents. This is the other sculpture for the Conjoined Monster diorama. The final painting, rust effect, and in this video adding the gooey parts.
