SDCC 2008 Good Hero/Evil Villain
After figuring out the whole separating MLP tail colors thing, I kept thinking about the SDCC 2008 exclusive G3 MLP, which I’ve seen called Good and Evil, Good/Evil, Hero and Villain, Hero/Villain. Save the Day/Rule the World.
I have no idea which is correct. The box doesn’t say.
Either way, it’s one pony with each half painted completely different but they were sharing a hair color and style. Maybe it’s supposed to be like Hero’s hair is all covered up and Villain has the hair? I don’t know.
I do know how to make the tail so that each side is unique from the other. I also generally do the parts on Barbies etc. with 4 rows of hair plugged into 2 rows of holes. MLP have two rows of holes.
I had to do it.
So I went and found an unboxed one with some paint scratches (she came with Ninja/Secret Identity for well, not cheap, but not undoable).
When I got her, I was initially reluctant to mess with her hair because it was fine. But then I touched it, discovered it’s polypropylene, which is dry and nasty and prone to both tangling and falling apart, and then I felt no guilt for removing it.
I went digging in my Shimmerlocks Kiwi/Qiyue hair stash, came up with some new colors for each character, and set to work rooting in 2 manes with a thatched part.
This way, both characters would have a full, 2-row mane in unique to them colors. Of course I didn’t really think about the fact that no matter what, they’d have to share a tail. They did each get individual colors of tail, though at half-volume.
Shimmerlocks nylon is a bit transparent in some colors. Save the Day has see-through anime bangs.
Despite each of them having a half-thickness tail, I think it looks great when viewed from either character’s side.
I’m honestly just tickled to have figured out how to do the tails this way (there are SO many tiny zip ties in her body) and it’s always fun to bring knowledge from one hobby into another.
If you’re curious:
Hero/Good/Save the Day has Shimmerlocks Nylon in Heart Throb and Marina (just like So Soft Bangles!)
Villain/Evil/Rule the World has Shimmerlocks Nylon in Posey, Powder Puff, Green Tea Mochi, and Medley

SDCC 2008 Ninja/Secret Identity came with Good & Evil. She only got hair care.
It's been 15 years, and I am only just now discovering there is a very brief moment during this video where I can be seen in the crowd. ...To be honest, I'm also only just now discovering the video exists.
For context, this was 2008, the height of "sexy costumes of everything!" for Halloween, Marvel wanted in, and they did a "fashion show" showing them off at San Diego Comic Con that year.
I swung by to see the pretty ladies as part of my duties as a member of the press.
Fun fact: The Emma Frost model also tossed out little plastic diamonds, because of course. I managed to snag one, and it's still around here SOMEwhere...
