It’s a big day today! I’ll be teaching a joint class with James Moore via zoom at 10am, followed by a Q & A. Then tonight the premiere of our piece “The Space Between Us” by Bruno Roque will happen at 6pm 😊 It’s such an strange, unsettling moment, but through it all @seattle_dance_collective has kept me grounded. Like always, the arts never fail me. Dance continues to guide me and I’m grateful everyday that I can contribute to the art form. Another premiere tonight for Seattle Dance Collective ♥️ Deciding to take our summer offerings onto a virtual format made me sad that I wouldn’t get to work intimately in a studio setting with dancers. That being said, we’ve been so fortunate to make magic happen in new ways with new artists for SDC. Tonight’s film is called “Musings” and it was created by two incredible women, Amanda Morgan & Nia-Amina Minor. One thought about creating dance right now, so beautifully expressed by @stephjbour in the “Making of” film (released tonight) - “It’s important for us to focus on what we CAN do as artists and arts organizations right now, not what we can’t do.” I really believe that it’s our job to step up and work with what we have to provide for people. I’m so proud of @seattle_dance_collective for pivoting from the traditional constructs that dance has in place, while creating a haven for people to go to to escape, feel or connect with each and our humanity. Things will eventually get back to a place where it feels a bit like it was, but in the meantime this is a huge opportunity for growth, in the arts community as well in society. Recognize, adapt, pivot, learn and grow, and above all else focus on all the good and what we can do with that. That’s what right now is about. And wear a MASK! Almost forgot!
