my own take on the SDR2 cast 6hrs in

my bf @kingofthesheep and I are playing it, we just got to the first murder (no spoilers for that here tho) finally & he went and made this post about the characters so I couldn't be outdone could I? I'm lazy so these are in a random order with their names as I remember them lmao

Hajime Hinata: Look, Hajime, I get it. This shit is fucked up, it's entirely understandable that you're going through some shit mentally & emotionally. But please, stop Ebony Raven Way-ing it up in your internal monologue. It's so fucking annoying dude you could use like 50% less words and say the same shit. Despite that his personality is actually really likable and I'm already liking his slight character development so 7/10

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu(sp?): I have a little bit of a soft spot for Crippling Insecurity Covered By Absolute Rage characters which prevents me disliking him as much as I probably should for how much of a dick he is. I would really like to know more about his backstory but atm I don't know where I am with him. 5/10

Nekomaru Nidai: a relatively normal (for a sports student anyway), perfectly nice guy. nothing particularly stands out about him except jesus christ he is so TMI shut the fuck up about needing to shit it's not even funny dude (in other words he feels like a comic relief character which is lost on me) 4/10 I just can't feel any affection for him I'm afraid

Teruteru: DEFINITELY a comic relief character and the WORST kind which is the Haha Funny Pervert. he's like the even worse DR equivalent of Mineta and I would personally murder him myself given the opportunity 0/10

Saionji: shut the fuck up you bitch, you fucking bully, I bet you've spent your whole life making other kid's lives miserable and getting away with it because you're cute 1/10 because you're funny sometimes

Akane Owari: wins the prize for being the hottest class member by a mile (not because of her tits tho, I find them distracting and not in a good way) & I do like her unabashed troublemaker, rulebreaker spirit but she surprised me by being unnecessarily mean and self-centred on occasion. 7/10

Mahiru: Not exactly a standout in any way but I like her a lot more than I was expecting, really like her no nonsense personality and straightforwardness. I trust her and I hope we see more of her 8/10

Peko Pekoyama: pretty sword girl gets instant approval and there's nothing to dislike about her, but I'm having trouble connecting with her very serious and reserved personality. If she lives long enough I'll probably warm to her because I do find her interesting, but I currently don't trust her at all. 7/10

Mikan: Listen, I WANT to like her and I keep finding myself going "awww" when she's being really anxious, but when I step back from that? I don't like her, for no good reason, and I certainly don't trust her. I find her entire character slightly... icky, if that makes sense. I may be unfairly influenced by the whole Junko's Sex Slave thing in the DR3 anime... 3/10

Chiaki Nanami: I dunno man she's a really cute sleepy gamer girl so I adore the concept of her but she just hasn't left much of an impression on me yet. 7/10

Twogami: When he's not doing his impressively accurate roleplay of Togami (he isn't the Ultimate Imposter for nothing I guess) he SEEMS to be surprisingly selfless and a really good guy. In theory I like him a lot but I'm not particularly invested and I absolutely don't trust him one bit 6/10 but I wish I could give him a higher score

Souda: he's fun, relatably anxious without being a personality-less pushover like Mikan, definitely seems like he'd never hurt anyone and has a fantastic design. 8/10

Sonia Nevermind: A sweetheart, impressively earnest and definitely doesn't intend it when she comes off as condescending sometimes. Just a really good unproblematic girl and unlike some others in that vein, she has somewhat caught my attention/interest. Would be moderately upset if she died 8/10

Ibuki: cute and fun, the only one who can be relied upon to be chipper in any situation. I've seen a glimmer of a possible "hahaha I'm dying inside but it's fine :)" attitude which catches my interest (I fucking love that character trope) but it remains to be seen whether she's actually that, or just a straight up cheerful character. I find her music obsessiveness a little bit Much at times. 7/10

Gundham Tanaka: I like him WAY less than I expected because in person his Dark Devas Of Destruction edginess is just REALLY ANNOYING. I think I finally sympathise with people who dislike the similarly dramatic Owain/Odin from FE: I love that guy, but with Gundham I find it too much - it's because so far I've seen absolutely no glimpse of his real, sincere personality. Honestly 3/10 I really really wish I liked him more though :(

Nagito Komaeda: 99% of the reason I bothered playing the game in the first place, but that was because I kinda wanted/expected to be proved WRONG in loving him. Instead I'm EXTREMELY surprised to find out he's a perfectly sweet, kind, friendly character who I already feel deeply attached to - he's totally different to the fanon/DR3 anime-derived concept of him that was in my head, but it turns out I love the real deal more than the ideal. I'm fully prepared to get fucked up by that later on and I don't even mind because I love him so freaking much. He manages to be relatively "normal" and very nice without feeling a little shallow and dull like some of the others do. 10/10 actually perfect in every way & I'd die for him

Hey I posted both the above things the last time I played SDR2 like a week ago, at which point I'd just reached the first murder

Character ask meme: Nagito Komaeda?

First impression: i loved him

Impression now: i still love him

Favorite moment: it’s a tie between him trying to make a milkshake with bacon grease and the events leading up to trial five

Idea for a story: what happens to him post sdr2 honestly. does he wake up? does he survive?

Unpopular opinion: he’s an interesting and cool character and not just a joke. also he’s gay. 

Favorite relationship: with hinata. i love that kind of dynamic tbh

Favorite headcanon: all the money he inherited and then won? he gave it all to monaka after he fell into despair, and that’s part of how she funded being a neet in space

Alright, whoever keeps moving Nagito Komaeda from INFJ to INFP, stop. This is the third goddamn time I've had to move him back here, and if your reasoning is that "he's an idealist who lives by his own values" then, quite frankly, you don't know what you're talking about.First of all, an INFP is way more than just a standard idealist, because there are idealists all across the type spectrum. Here's a description of an INFP, an idealist who lives primarily in their own emotional state and personal ethics, the kind of person who would be likely to save a friend at the risk of dooming a nation.Meaning, harmony and personal values are at the heart of the INFP. It is essential to the INFP that their beliefs and actions are totally in sync. An INFP is unlikely to take any action which they don’t believe in their heart is right. Sensitive, caring and empathetic INF Ps are excellent in supporting roles. Deep and private, they do not like being boxed in or constrained by rules.And then there's an INFJ, the kind of person more likely to doom the friend for the sake of saving a nation and feel entirely justified in doing so, though it might hurt.Serious minded and caring, values are so important to the INFJ. Integrity is their watchword and they will be excellent listeners, supportive and with a strong desire to ‘do the right thing’ often the catalyst for making things better. The INFJ will work patiently long and hard behind the scenes to maintain harmony but they are also intensely independent of thought and spirit.So, as you can see, there's a distinct difference, and Komaeda falls so cleanly into the latter category that there really isn't any room for debate.Second of all, Komaeda does not live by "his own values" in the sense that an INFP does. If you actually knew anything about the entire goddamn point of his character, then you'd know that he's addressing a major problem in Japanese society—that is, that people are born with inherent worth or value. Sure, he's a bit (read: a lot) more complex than that, but social morals are, uh, literally the definition of Fe. When looking for hope in his own life, his first response was to adopt SOCIETY'S views on hope (hope's peak is literally the hope of the nation, so) rather than lose himself in his own idealism, then construct a mental framework based on that (tertiary Ti), which resulted in the weird views on hope we see him with in canon. This isn't his natural mode of operating; this is the mental defense he uses to KEEP HIMSELF GOING. Because his life sucked that much.Nobody's arguing that he's not an intuitive type because this guy's all about the abstract side of things (which, hey, extra points towards him being an N-dom type rather than an F-dom), and there are people who argue that he's not an introvert but they're dumb because he very much is, no matter what your definition of the word is. For goodness' sake, he enjoys reading, spend a large portion of his life convinced he was content with no meaningful human relationships whatsoever, often keeps to himself unless he actually has a reason for interacting with others, and, most tellingly, he dislikes loud places—places that would disturb his peace of mind. Why he's a J rather than a P is because of how single-minded with a devotion to vision and order rather than emotion and disorder that he is in a way that Ps (ESPECIALLY I Nx Ps) aren't. The primary difference between INF Js and INF Ps is that while INF Ps generate abstract possibilities (aux Ne) based on their own emotions and ideals (dom Fi), INF Js have an overarching vision (dom Ni) of how things should be. In-the-moment emotional visions versus single-minded grand visions based on ethics. Komaeda is ABSOLUTELY the latter. There's also the fact that INF Ps are emotional and Komaeda, is, well, probably the most emotionally detached character in the entire freaking series, and the fact that he hides this so well while staying so outwardly animated is, hey, another point for INFJ.One argument I've seen is that he's a P because he relies on luck, but that's... uh, his luck works pretty systematically. So, another point for J.As the final nail in the coffin for him being anything but an Fi-dom while having a good understanding of others' emotions generally associated with Fe, there's a part in chapter 4 where he correctly deduces that one of the students had been crying about another, then muses about the fact that mourning the dead would change nothing. If that's not Ni-Fe, I don't know what is.So, yeah. Really obvious INFJ, possibly in a bit of a dom-tert loop. Please stop moving him. It's giving me headaches.

like the dangan ronpa franchise is fucked up and the game plots have more holes in them than mukuro ikusaba’s body but like. komaeda was a legitimately interesting character and chapter five was probably my favorite part of sdr2. it was the fandom that turned him into a joke/meme and while like, i love a good komaeda joke, i feel like the fandom komaeda has expanded beyond the actual game character to the detriment of how we talk about sdr2 itself,.
