The lighthouse isn’t actually the main reason to go out there. Following the coastal path south for a bit less than a mile brings you to the cliffs overlooking the astonishing Duncansby Stacks. I’ve tried to include a couple of photos with human figures to give some sense of scale (there are people standing on the cliff top in the first photo, and on the beach in the third) but these photos still don’t really capture it.

The walk down to them also takes you past some great viewpoints for birdwatching. The cliffs are covered with nesting seabirds, mostly fulmars and kittiwakes as far as I could tell but with a few guillemots and puffins as well.
