sea walker
so sea walkers understandably hate looters. what abt historians?? i would LOVE to talk to a sailor. the information they would have - ugh. amazing.
The biggest issue is getting them to leave their ships— pretty much any interaction with a sea walker is against their will or uhhhhh in the context of the whole… accidental cannibalism… thing. but the main sea walker would probably talk to historians in the right context
I’m still working on sea walker because it’s more plot-heavy than worldbuilding-heavy and that’s not my usual fare, but here are some characters:
—the protagonist is a salvage diver, working for a company with some very sketchy business ethics because she has no generally recognized credentials. she’s estranged from her family and lives with her long term “roommate”. she often comes off as severe and unapproachable, in part because she’s intensely private, but she’s also very observant and makes a remarkably thoughtful friend if you can win her over.
—not present in the first act but a main character afterwards, the protagonist’s “roommate” has health issues that make it hard for her to hold down a job, making them both fairly reliant on the protagonist’s income. sweet, but with a sort of gallows humor realism to her that can make her very jarring to talk to.
—the protagonist’s dive partner, who considers her a friend even though she keeps him at arms length. a few years out from a VERY messy divorce, he has a directionless vibe to him and doesn’t seem to have any real passions in life. he picks up an old smoking habit after shit hits the fan and is just generally having a bad time.
Idk if someone asked this already, but what is Julius' backstory???
He was a fisherman who married for love only for his wife to die VERY young, he was pretty deep in grief and ended up getting drunk with some pirates and joined up. He sailed with the crew for about 15 years before they lost a fight with the navy.
dont forget to tag sea walker so u dont loose it. how does that boss trick them into treasure hunting???
thank you I owe you my life
He doesn’t tell them the truth of what they’re salvaging! They do shipwrecks all the time, that’s the gig, but it’s usually recent wrecks where some company is trying to recover their shit, not like… looting old pirate ships.
There have already been multiple deaths involving this ship, and their boss KNOWS that. People go down and either don’t come up or come up dead with their gear wrecked.
Can you give us a Top Three Facts TM about Patricia (that we haven't been told yet)?
I’ve got a couple asks about Pat and I’m delighted that you guys are already onboard for her! Here’s some Facts:
—she’s 36 and hasn’t seen any of her family since her early 20s, having ditched their small town life with all the enthusiasm you’d expect from a lesbian raised in the 50s by a strict religious couple. she hasn’t stepped foot in a church in about as long. she met her partner when she was 28 and they settled down together before she hit 30– their 8th anniversary was a month before the start of the story.
—she loves the ocean but hates the traditional beach experience, preferring boat fishing or trips to the beach in winter when it’s quiet and cold. her favorite thing in the world is sitting on the docks in november with her partner, just watching the cargo ships come in.
—she doesn’t drink much anymore, having mostly left the bar scene, but is firmly of the opinion that wine is pretentious and loves a good brandy
i need to sleep, but, first, some not quite random facts to consider for the sea walker plot:
--the main characters are caught up in a very dangerous treasure hunt they didn’t sign up for because their boss needs a lot of money very fast
--it’s a common trope for kidnappers to send a body part with a ransom demand
--if you can trick a sea walker into eating human flesh they will adopt the grudges of that person
So like approximately how pretty will your new mythical creatures be?
Depends on how into undead sailors you are! Most of them are relatively structurally intact, so if they were handsome before, they’re probably still pretty decent with coral growing off them or algae in their beard
