Panulo [pa.nu.lû.] Rootword sulo [sú.lû.] from the Cebuano language, meaning torch. In the fishing world, Panulo means fishing at night or gleaning for crabs and shellfish at shore with a torch as light. Torches came in many forms as time goes by. In olden times, twined dried coconut leaves were lit. Then came the flask with wick, using kerosene as fuel. Further innovation was introduced with the use of Petromax a pressurised paraffin lamp that uses a mantle, also using kerosene as fuel.
