TW: CLAUSTROPHOBIA AND PANIC ATTACK MENTION
THE SOUND OF THE SIRENS BLARED IN HIS EARS AS THE FLASHING LIGHTS GREETED HIS EYES. He was here again, back at the site of a building wreckage. It would be a different building every time, but every time it would be the same people trapped underneath. Every damn time he would rush towards the collapsed buildings, hearing the—always—muffled sounds of the firemen and officers in the background. They always tell Sasuke not to go, but he had to. She was stationed near these buildings. He had to save her life before it was too late. He had to.
The raven-haired looked left and right, surveying the collapsed buildings and the cracked ground. He lets his body move to the center building (it was always the center building), kneeling before it and starting to dig, not bothering to listen to the others’ opposing statements from afar. She had to be in this, she always had to be underneath the center building. With furrowed brows, he concentrates on removing the rubble—finding it frustrating that more materialized before his eyes.
❝ Sa…su…ke? ❞
He heard his name from the rubble, faint yet present. It was her, it was Aqua. Sasuke knew her voice anywhere from being in the precinct so often with her; it made Sasuke work harder in getting her out—he had to save his teammate from an inevitable end.
❝ Don’t talk, I’m getting you out of here. Just hold on. ❞
The ex-rogue replied with desperation and frustration in his voice, finally seeing the tuft of blue hair from the rubble. If he could pull out the debris fast enough, he could get to Aqua before the feeling of his chest tighten and hands reach towards him. That was always his hopeful point of view, but he’s foolish to ever think that his dream would change and that hope would materialize. Before he knew it, Sasuke felt a tightness in his chest, as if he was the one getting boxed in the rubble instead of Aqua. The hands reach for him, tightening their grip on his body as their voices build a crescendo that will soon become a cacophony of lost souls in desperation. But he had to concentrate.
He needed to concentrate. For Aqua.
The young cop pressed on, finding his breathing ragged as the debris materialized again to cover that familiar blue hair. His fingers dirty and bleeding from the rough edges of the destroyed building. Every debris he took out, three more would materialize and the more he felt boxed in in the spring winds.
A loud crack and the pulling of those hands would make Sasuke give in as he watched the ground below break and swallow the debris whole.
❝ We told you to stop, Officer Uchiha! You incompetent fool. ❞
The cacophony of voices would scold him, but he couldn’t bring himself to listen as he watches Aqua’s body being swallowed by the sinkhole. This was his fault. His breathing doesn’t stop being ragged, feeling himself not being able to move and the world pushed into him. The panic seeping out of his body as he threatened to scream. But he couldn’t, he always couldn’t; even as the world felt like it was boxing him in—forcing him to wake up from his living room floor.
Sitting on the floor, the Uchiha tried breathing in deep breaths. But those made it so much worse. His hand automatically moves itself to his shoulder—the searing feeling of someone’s hand still fresh as the apartment around him began to get blurry. He was having a full-blown panic attack, he knew. But he couldn’t help himself.
Another teammate he couldn’t save once more. Will it ever end?
