Smudge Sticks
Hi guys! Today, as the full moon starts to arise to be at its fullest tomorrow night, I thought it was the perfect timing to do some smudge sticks. I’m gonna share with you how I normally do mine, with pictures, long blog.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Sage
- Rosemary
- Chamomile
- Sea Lavander
- Rose petals (I use red and white, for different intentions)
- Salt (I also use pink salt, but if you don’t have any, regular salt will do)
- 2 white candles
- 2 Obsidian crystals
- String
- Moon water
If you don’t have moon water, you can totally do it today, that way you can do your smudge sticks tomorrow. I have this jar of moon water I made a few moons back. I keep it at my altar.
STEPS
1. Separate your herbs
I will normally start by separating the petals, flowers, sage and rosemary I will use. Keep in mind how many smudge sticks you’re going to do every time. This way you won’t ran out of materials for future crafts.
2. Cast a circle
Put your materials in the center as you cast a circle. You can do it in your mind or visible with the salt. I use two obsidian plates where I place the candles and light them up. Put the glass of water at the top. This will protect your herbs and purify them with the elements. I do herbs first, then flowers and petals.
3. Moon water
I like to sprinkle some of the moon water into the herbs and flowers I’m going to use. You can definitely do all of them together, or do it separately. I did three smudge sticks so I decided to purify them in two different circles.
4. Build your stick
Start by building your smudge stick by placing the string in a horizontal line. Then add a few petals, along with the sage and rosemary sticks. It’s fun, so get creative with how many herbs and flowers you want to add.
5. First knot
I find it a little bit challenging keeping all of the herbs together. That’s why the first knot is so important. If you’re making a smudge stick with short stems, then you want to make this knot in the middle. If you’re doing one with long stems, do it at the bottom.
6. Tie the rest
As I said before, if you’re working with short stems you’ll want to tie the string along the whole smudge stick. Otherwise the string won’t keep them together and they will get lose.
I’ll show you the three different smudge sticks I made. 2 with short stems and 1 with long stems.
Short stems and tiny chamomile flowers
Short stems and less flowers
Long stems
That’s pretty much how I normally do my smudge sticks I will use them tomorrow for cleansing my apartment, myself and my boyfriend, lol. But for now, I’ll keep them in a jar in my altar, so they can be ready for tomorrow’s full moon.
I hope you guys like it. When I began my journey I didn’t knew how to make my own smudge sticks, so I used to spend a lot of money buying them. I hope this helps you guys too. If you’re planning on do some, share your pictures I would love to see them. Thanks for sticking through the end!
