sealed siblings...
--
“Hollow… Hollow.”
Hornet cannot help but weep into her sibling's shade, cold void freezing her fingers. She'd mind, could she still feel them.
Her sibling, larger, protective, always silent, curls around her. Holding. Waiting.
Knowing.
A figure hangs from the chains that once restrained them. Neither can bear to look. To see Ghost, their smaller sibling, chained, eyes glowing, in the place of Hollow.
Nor can they look toward the door, shut tight with seals none can break. In time, maybe, but not soon enough.
Not for Hornet.
Her hands curl into fists, sinking into the void making up her sibling. She presses her forehead into their darkened chest, and sobs. Hollow tries not to think about how her cries have slowly been getting weaker.
“I failed. I failed them. Mama…” She hiccups, pressing herself harder against Hollow. “Mama, I’m sorry…”
Hollow can only hold her.
Still so small…
Even smaller, when the life finally leaves her, when the last words to pass through her lips do, in a final admittance of fear:
“Holly… ‘m scared…”
And then she is gone.
