The Sadies’ Dallas Good Dead at 48
- “The stage is dark today with the all-too-soon passing of one of music’s brightest lights,” bandmates say
Dallas Good, the guitarist and co-frontman of the Sadies, died Feb. 17, days after doctors diagnosed “a coronary illness,” his bandmates said.
The guitarist and singer was 48.
“A son, a brother, a husband, a friend, a bandmate, a leader, a force to be reckoned with, we have no words for the shock we are all feeling,” Good’s brother, Travis, and Sean Dean and Mike Belitsky said in a statement.
“We join the rest our music community and fans in grief. The stage is dark today with the all-too-soon passing of one of music’s brightest lights.”
Formed in Toronto in 1994, the Sadies released their debut, Precious Moments, in 1998. In addition to 10 band albums, the Sadies also recorded and performed with Neko Case, John Doe, Gord Downie and others.
The Sheepdogs said they were “crushed” and called the Sadies “one of the best bands ever,” while Choir! Choir! Choir! lamented “Toronto is a lot less Toronto” in the wake of Good’s death.
“This is terribly sad,” Jason Isbell tweeted. “I like Dallas and that band a whole lot. Hate hearing the news.”
Fellow Canadian musician Randy Bachman said Good was a “phenomenal musician” and a good friend.
“Everything I could play on guitar, he could play better,” Bachman wrote on Facebook. “He will be sorely missed.”
