i've complained enough this morning so i'll just talk about something else i really wanna talk about and that's zeus and hera ok.

i've been thinking a lot about their dynamic, and in particular, how i envision hera. and i think the thing i've come to realize is that hera's anger towards the women zeus sleeps with (and their children) comes from one of two places. fear of being replaced, and disdain at being lied to.

zeus has a lot of children with other women, and i really don't think that is the inherent problem. hera desires his fidelity, but in my context (and in the context of much myth, that is), zeus' affairs were rarely born out of a very deep love. they were necessities. the world needed heroes, and the world needed gods, and as father of the gods he took it upon himself to do so. so i think there are a lot of children zeus has, and women he's taken to bed, whom hera has no issue with (i mean, the muses, athena, hermes even, though don't quote me on it, persephone, perseus, etc etc). she's not mad that zeus does this. it's how he does it, and who he chooses to do it with that really becomes the issue.

some of the biggest sufferers of hera's wrath are as follows: leto, heracles, dionysusn semele, echo, and io. there are others, but i'm going to focus on these ones.

leto was a titaness, and a powerful one. a close friend of hera's, too, i like to think. so when she and zeus have children together, hera is not angry that he did it, she's angry about who it was with - and, in fear that of all the women he took to bed, she might be the one who could replace her - or that her children might be able to outrank hera's children. the affair itself is not the issue - hera punishes leto because she is furious at the thought of being replaced, and does so in an attempt to put leto in her place.

heracles, is, again, a massive threat to hera and her children, should he attempt to do anything about it. dionysus and semele hera punishes because of how much zeus loved semele (in my opinion). she feared that semele might be the one woman zeus loved more than her, and she punishes all of them for it. dionysus, the product of their love, earns the same ire. echo is punished because of zeus' lies, as is io. she doesn't care that he did it. she cares that zeus tried to hide it and lie about it, and so unleashes her wrath.

none of this is to say that hera is necessarily justified or that their relationship is healthy. but i don't think its fair to say that hera is just vindictive and jealous either. i think she handles her husband's infidelity well most of the time, but draws the line at threats to her and her children, or secrecy in it.

it's why i like to think that in later years, their relationship becomes closer as zeus' need for producing offspring decreases, and as they become more open about it all. zeus is a little bit more free to follow his heart, so long as hera knows and feels secure that he will always come back to her and choose her. and if he fails to do so, she will put him back in his place.

Aglaea

Family - She loves being a mother, far more than she thought she would. Raising her daughters was a delight, and they are her pride and joy. She would certainly not be upset if she were to have more children, because building her own family is a joy she never expected but is glad she is now aware of.

Friendship - Her closest friend is probably Aphrodite. She serves her loyally, but the relationship is more of a friendship than anything else. She cherishes it greatly, which is why I hc that she asked for Aphrodite's blessing before she pursued anything with Hephaestus.

Romance - Funnily enough, Aglaea never actually gave much thought to finding love before she fell for Hephaestus. She was perfectly content doing her duties as one of Aphrodite's attendants. I think because so many marriages among the gods are strained, forced, or broken, she decided she could live without any kind of relationship. That isn't to say that she didn't have the occasional dalliance, but she never had or really craved anything serious until she met Heph. She does enjoy romantic gestures though, and a good love story does make her sigh dreamily.

Medusa

Family - Medusa has a pretty good relationship with her gorgon sisters and visited them often prior to her punishment. She felt sad they were unable to mingle with others as she did, and her awareness of their hardships is what made her own transformation so difficult for her. After her transformation, I HC they still visit her from time to time and try to comfort her.

Friendship - While she received attention from plenty of admirers with a sexual or romantic interest in her, I feel like Medusa did struggle to make friends with people, as despite her beauty she still was something inhuman, and so always felt a bit of a barrier between herself and humans. I feel like she had acquaintances more than anything. And of course, post transformation, any chances of friendship with people died.

Romance - Medusa did dream of romance as a young girl, however, she gave up the notion when she dedicated herself to Athena. Her love for the goddess outshone any advances she received, and she knew even if she fell in love, most would be put off by her vow that wouldn't allow for copulation. Poseidon was the only one who made her think about romance again, and in the end she couldn't resist the pull she felt towards him.

Amphitrite

Family - One would think that having so many siblings would be hard, but Amphitrite loves each and every one of them in her own way, though I think she's closest to Thetis and spends the most time with her. She'd never admit to having a favourite sister, though.

Friendship - I like to think she's good friends with her fellow Queens, happily spending time with both Hera and Persephone when she can. They probably have a great time gossiping about the happenings in their respective kingdoms, as well as confiding in and supporting each other when things get tough.

Romance - Amphi had a very idealistic view of romance when she was young and wanted something much like what her parents have. It was part of the reason she fled upon being betrothed to Poseidon, upset that she wasn't getting the romance she'd dreamt of and was instead to marry a god she'd never met. Initially I think she was quite cold in her marriage, but eventually she was won over, and she did fall for Poseidon in the end. Turns out she did get her romance, the order was just a little jumbled.

Pasithea

Family - She doesn't get to see her father as much after her marriage, but I think she gets on well with him and enjoys it when she gets to spend time with him. (Update) - She also spends time with Hera, though naturally she never spends time with them both at the same time, as their animosity upsets her. She wishes her birth father and adoptive mother would get on, but she knows it's unlikely to ever happen.

Friendship - She's great friends with the Maenads and sometimes roams with them if the mood strikes. What's better than roaming about with the girls and having wild parties?

Romance - Pasithea had a fair few relationships before her marriage, but none were ever particularly serious or led anywhere. She never really gave thought to falling in love beyond 'if it happens, it happens'. She was surprised when she was promised to Hypnos, but she was actually pretty chill with it, and once she got to know him, she tumbled quite surprisingly in love.

Minthe

Family - Minthe's only immediate family is her father, Cocytus, and she makes every effort to see him when she can. When they're together, it's easy to see where her gloomy personality comes from, so they actually get on pretty well because they understand one another. She loves her father, and truthfully, he's one of the only people she trusts implicitly.

Friendship - Minthe has no close friends, unless you count her father. That's it; that's the headcanon. She is... very lonely.

Romance - Before she met Hades, she had a rather naive view of love, and she assumed her love with Hades would last forever when they were together. After her punishment, that view became tainted, and she now is more guarded with her heart. She still yearns for love, but her already low confidence got knocked even lower after her punishment and separation from Hades, so she fears she will never have it. Especially because she still has some lingering feelings for Hades, making it hard for her to move on.

Comments: He is a maybe leaning more towards a yes, but he'd get a whole revamp. New FC, revised personality etc. The reason he's a maybe and not a total yes is because my muse for him is very quiet and I think I might struggle to muster the motivation to do things with him.

I also worry about disappointing you bc you probably have a lot of headcanons about him and po and I can't promise mine would fit into those hdidbdj

How would Magnifico feel if he met another magic-user? Since magic appeared to be forbidden in the kingdom of Rosas (used by another other than him), does he view other magic-users with suspicion? How did he come to learn magic to begin with? Did he learn it purely for pragmatic reasons (i.e., it could serve as a useful tool to further his ambitions) or was there ever any sense of wonder?

magnifico has a particular rule against magic users within his own kingdom because he wants to be the one sorcerer and therefore the one person his people can rely on (alongside amaya, of course; she handles most of the... diplomatic aspects while mags is over here messing around with magic like he's a kid playing with legos lbr). when it comes to magic-users in other kingdoms, he's not bothered; most of the time, he's intrigued and also cautious, but as long as he can manage an alliance with that kingdom... he doesn't fear them treading on his toes—

and hey, if they dare to tread on his toes...? he has that book of forbidden magic for a reason ;) we know he's not above using it :D shakes him shakes him shakes him shakes hi-

the learning of magic was definitely spurred by the devastation of his original kingdom (what @howthesleeplesswander and i named Primevère), but before that ever happened, mags has always been intrigued by it. y'see, the problem is that before reality punched him in the face and made him get his life together, he never had a real "drive" to push him to pursue anything earnestly. unfortunately, it took the passing of his family and the destruction of Primevère to wake him up (wake him up inside) and really get him to dig in and do something—which, as we all know, is dedicate himself wholly and completely to learning the thing he was... ehhhh... too lazy to commit to beforehand

as far as how he learned magic: all self-taught. lots of poring over tomes he found (both in libraries of neighboring kingdoms and in some fun ancient ruins he got to explore owo/), experimentation, and plenty of "wow i definitely almost just blew myself up there" moments. but he's done it! so it all ended up working out for him in the end, yeah? c:
