Charles had never been to the fire pits, but his students had encouraged him to go. They all gave it high praise noting how peaceful it could be late at night if one was in the mood for clarity. That was right up Charles’ alley and so he opted to go just before midnight, wheeling himself in front of an empty pit with a bag of marshmallows and a stick he brought from home.
He had yet to roast his first marshmallow when another joined him quietly. They stood at a distance, but the way their eyes stared into the flames told Charles all he needed to know without the gift of telepathy. Something was on his mind, but then, that was most of Woodshore from day to day. People were always searching for that which was lost while Charles was simply searching for peace of mind.
Eventually Charles reached down for his bag so he could begin roasting his snack when his snack as well as other things tipped out of the bag. “Well crap,” he muttered. The man next to him rushed to his side and was kind enough to spare Charles the difficulty of trying to gather things up without his ‘claw’. His telekinesis was usually his go-to method but out here, he dare not use his abilities without drawing attention to him.
“I am terribly clumsy so thank you,” he said quietly. The bag was placed in his lap with his phone being the last thing the stranger extended towards him. Their fingers brushed lightly in the process and that’s when Charles looked up, unable to tear eyes away from him. It was as if time stopped ( and it probably did quite literally ) for those few seconds while the faces of people Charles couldn’t remember flooded his mind. Fingers curled, eyes closing briefly as memories slipped between the two of them. Seated at a table were five other men, one of them being the man standing next to him.
Charles looked around the room in confusion while bits and pieces of a heated conversation took place.
“I’m sorry Mr. Stark, but I cannot back something that could potentially enrage Magneto and backfire on me. I have to put mutants first when no one else does.”
“We need to work together to prevent civil war!”
Charles blinked, gasping as he pulled his hand away from Tony. Looking up at him, they both seemed too shocked for words. Heart racing, the figure standing over him no longer felt like a stranger. His aura felt familiar, his name and face recognizable now. HE WAS TONY STARK: AKA IRON MAN and they knew each other once upon a time. . .
Averting his eyes towards the fire, Charles broke the uneasy silence, but just barely. His mind was still working things out and it terrified him a little. “I---I’m sorry. Sometimes... when people touch me... things happen.”
