“Okay, I come from a tropical country where it constantly rains... But then again, our city never had THIS much of rain.”
A storm. A fucking storm. With two exams next week and a research paper due in the coming days, the last thing Danielle needed to deal with was the power going in and out and a leaky ceiling. After giving up on her essay, as the lights turning on and off with every crack of thunder was just too distracting, she had tried to roll a joint. Only halfway through, Beau had come running in pointing out that multiple parts of their apartment had water gushing in. Fast forward an hour later, and the every room in their place had puddles, and it only seemed to be growing. “Babe, how the fuck are we going to clean all this up? Are you sure don’t have any more buckets?” Not that the ones they had already set up helped much, as they were all overflowing. While her questions were harsh, she knew Beau understood it was only her frustration with the situation, not him. “I always knew this place was a piece of shit, but Jesus Christ.”

The sky was getting darker and the rain kept coming down in torrents. As she ran towards her apartment, Abby mentally berated herself on forgetting to bring her umbrella. She clutched her books closer, which she hid under her coat. She just hoped that they would fare better than her coat. It was most probably ruined, considering that it wasn’t suitable for stormy weathers.
Abby finally got into her apartment and was welcomed by the loud mewling noises of Luna. Her calico cat approached her and started rubbing on her leg. Abby absentmindedly rubbed her pet’s fur as she put her books and papers down on a table. Power was still out, so her apartment was relatively dim. She took off her coat, slowly shedding off some clothes when lightning appeared across the sky, illuminating her apartment for a bit. She sighed. Her place was still in a bit of disarray. She really hadn’t had time to clean up.
She was picking up some stray clothes on the floor when lightning crashed and thunder resonated around her. What she didn’t expect was the sound of explosion and parts of her window flying towards her. Something exploded, outside her window and pieces of her windows’ glass were already scattered on the floor. Good thing she still had her shoes on. She tiptoed towards the window and gasped as she saw the light pole near her window was destroyed and was now burning.
With panic starting to kick in, she knew she had to leave. She had this sudden vision of her apartment exploding, and she really didn’t want that to happen. It was very likely not gonna happen, but she knew she had to get out of there. She grabbed Luna, who was crouched behind he sofa. She then grabbed a backpack and shoved in several cans of tuna and soup. Then she also put in her laptop, and several of her notebooks. She also put in the bag her phone and other things she thought she might need. Grabbing a coat, she huddled Luna close to her and walked out of her apartment and locked the door.
Out in the hallway, her neighbors were out and about, murmuring amongst themselves. She didn’t pay them any attention. She just walked out of there as fast as she could. As soon as she out on the street, the rain came pouring down heavily again. Beneath her coat, Luna mewled out a protest. Abby had nowhere else to go...unless. Yes, unless. There was one person on her mind, but she wasn’t entirely sure if he’d appreciate her suddenly barging in. Bringing a cat.
Abby sent out a quick plea to the heavens before running towards where James lived. She had never been there before, but had passed it several times. She and James were friends, of course. But they haven’t really visited each other yet in their homes. They almost always meet at a cafe. Or at the university.
Soon she was outside his door. Or hopefully it was his door. With no hesitation at all, she knocked on the door several times. Luna started squirming inside her coat. It was only when the door opened did Luna let out a loud meow and Abby started blurting out, “Can I stay here for the night?”
While everyone was rushing around the small corner store looking for candles and batteries, Danielle was trying to squeeze through the crowd without anyone bumping into her arm. Underneath her jacket were carefully wrapped burns, a result of a blanket carelessly being too close to a candle. As she searched for the burn cream, someone lightly collided with her arm and she involuntarily winced. “Fuck, I hate this outage.”
PLOT DROP—
Almost everyone knows that Seattle is home to heavy rainclouds and foggy skies. It’s all apart of the city’s charm, but as the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.” For the past week, the city has been dealing with thunderstorms that are incredibly inconvenient. As of last night, a bolt of lightning has struck down power in different parts of the city. Both Northside and Capitol Hill have been extremely impacted by this.
The city is trying their best to restore power. However, it is unknown how long it could be out for. We ask that you take proper precautions. Local grocers are in stock with plenty of emergency supplies for everyone who has been affected. Aside from the power outages, there have been no reports of any extreme dangers. While this situation can be concerning, we assure you that everything will remain a-okay and we thank you for being patient.
